lion since it is way to fast for a gorilla and a gorilla is nothing like a chimp a chimp is 100% muscle and a gorilla is not also gorillas live very slow paced lives and generally move "quickly" during confrontations between males. I know this since my degree and soon to be masters degree is in biological anthropology with an emphasis in living primates, IE not the discovery channel

A Gorilla would not have any protection from the lion getting on its back and even though the gorilla can reach backwards I highly doubt its going do a tricep extension of a 500lb lion with crawls dug in.

No doubt - and, if you have ever held a cat that did not want to be held... Well, lions are pretty bad ***. One swipe with a huge clawed paw and it's hurt time. Lion could easily hold down and munch on a big critter... I dunno. Gorillas are cool and all, but the lion would win.

I think that if it was an even fight, no ambush, height advantage, etc., the gorilla would win. The lion would get a few good hits on the gorilla, but in the end the gorilla is smarter and more powerful.

I would bet on the Lion. They aren't dumb, they kill large animals to eat.. they are built for taking down beasts the size of gorillas. A gorilla is in no way evolved to take down lions and eat them..

How about the biggest baddest great white shark vs biggest baddest grizzly bear, 2 feet of still water?

Shark would be screwed. It wouldn't be able to move in 2ft of water. Have you seen a great white? They're huge.
