I second the Sennheiser HD280 Pros. I bought them back in late 2003 for about $70 from Amazon. I started to see them slowly creep up into the $100 range since then. I'd still buy them for $100 if I needed them. I used them for my digital audio class when I was in college. I still have them, but the headband is a little flimsy, mine snapped in my backpack. If you're looking for skull thumping bass, these aren't it.

I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way while reading this thread, I'm glad "Beats" aren't predominantly mentioned yet except by the OP asking if they're good or not.

Cost about $150 give or take. It's suppose to be similar quality to the Beats-by-Dre and it's half the price. I might get a pair myself. I've been reading a lot about them online.

My brother has a pair of these and I've done a few hours of listening with them. I would definitely suggest them to someone looking for something in that price range and in need of some thump without sacrificing too much balance like some of the serious bass knockers.

I felt like they clamped a little bit harder than I would like, but that is completely subjective.

Thanks for the all the input, definitely appreciate it and now have a better idea of whats out there. Only reason I brought up the Beats was that my roommate has/had a hookup on them. I think they're overpriced because of the name and maker and its good to know there's other headphones as good or better.

I would like to have something balanced and sounds better than the headphones I have now. Don't need something that rattles drowns out everything with heavy bass, but don't want to loss the bass either.

Sennheisers or Grado's for sound enthusiast.

usually you can ebay a good pair of used cans if you research. all good over ears can be rebuilt or repaired. all depends on your interests and music.

These marshalls are okay, not amazing but you get what you pay for. They cost $99. Beats are all hype, they are only good really loud. I like my QC15s but I love my B&W P5s.

It needs a male to male aux cable thats small, like the monster cable would fit i dunno how else to explain it. the pin is normal but the head cannot be too big. sony should have replacement ones. or frys.
