Get a lot of PNW strange?
Go down by the baseball/football stadiums. Check out Cowgirls, Inc on King street. Pretty fun bar. Hot women. Mechanical bull. Depending on what time you're there take the underground tour. Head down the Pike's Place Market. Uhhh... that's all I've got.
I haven't been there in a while, though.
That bar is in Pioneer Square by the way which is also a cool place to check out.

What area? I am up there a lot and in point of fact next week. I am usually around the Capitol Hill area which has loads of awesome food (seriously), good bars, clubs and apparently an over-trendy atmosphere. Seems a bit like SF without all the skank but I have noticed there are a few erm - gay bars. Thankfully they make that very clear... Either way this whole area is a freaking party Thurs-Sat and our company's office is right in the middle of it.
Food establishments that stands out to me are:
- The Oddfellows Bar - outstanding breakfast/lunch/dinner
- Quinn's - Dinners - one of the best burgers I have ever had in my face, everything there is awesome and they have loads of beer on tap (including Pliny the Elder)
- Pike St. Fish Fry - some of the best fresh-caught fried fish I have had in my life - sometimes you can see someone bring in a fish, and eat part of it minutes later.
- Elysian Brewing Co. - great food and beer.. It's a brewery.
This area is also about a 10-15 minute walk from the Pike Place Market which is really a lot of fun. On the way between there are great shops/stores and even some art galleries. There is the Paramount Theatre which is cool and sometimes has interesting shows. Plus, you can also catch a Ferry to Bainbridge Island or any of the others and tour around. Depends on what you want to do. Downtown on Pike street is fun for a walk around and there are the normal chain restaurant/bars there but IMHO it's worth a trek up the hill to the Hill for food.
One of my fav places to go to is the Fremont/Ballard area. There is a nice biking/hiking trail that seems to hit a bunch of awesome breweries in the proper order (Start at Brouwers and then, Hale's Ales, Maritime Taproom, some others). This place is insane if you are into beer and good food as well: http://brouwerscafe.blogspot.com/
Also, the area around UW is pretty fun - lots of shops and stores and a totally kick-*** Thai restaurant called Thai Thom. It will literally burn your face off.
Really depends on what areas you are in - I assume you will be downtown if it's for work, which is admittedly a little far from Fremont/Ballard and UW but the downtown area has lots to see.
I guess most of my stuff is centered around food/beer. Heh. Sorry.

Ditto on Ballard. I'm up there for work a fair bit too and I always hit up the U-District, eastlake, Ballard, and Capitol Hill for dinner. Pike Place is cool once, but it's kinda like going to fishermans wharf in sf - hella tourists. Although, I had a great meal at Steelhead Diner in Post Alley by Pike Place last time I was up there a couple weeks ago.
My faaaaaavorite restaurant in Ballard is La Carta Oaxaca - amazing oaxacan food, very deep selection of tequila, mezcal, and sotol - great atmosphere and delicious food.
The bus system in Seattle is very robust and intuitive, and more or less up to date in google maps on the iPhone. If you choose the public transportation option when you map something from 'current location' it will tell you exactly what corner or station to go to, what bus to take, and when it will arrive. There are underground buses too which is kind of a trip.
If you go to Eastlake (66 or 70 bus north from 4th/pike downtown) there's a great restaurant called Cichetti's that has one of only a few wood fired pizza ovens in the Seattle area, and their happy hour dinner/drink menu is really good and fairly reasonably priced. For four cocktails, two different small pizzas, a sausage and something else I forgot it was like $60 w/tip which is decent for two people eating very well at a nice place.
To get to Ballard take the 18 or 43 bus from 1st avenue downtown if that's where you are. Oaxaca is amazing - I eat there literally every time I go up for work. I think my boss and I are borderline obsessed with it.

Other food standouts:
Pho Cyclo - capitol hill
Molly Moon's ice cream - also capitol hill. Similar to bi-rite in SF with interesting flavors and sundaes.
I'm gonna get fat someday because of business travel.

I will have to check out Oaxaca. Sounds kick-***.
Next time you are in Capitol Hill and need some Dinner, check out Quinn's - seriously it's insane - the menu reads a little fru-fru but the food is outstanding, service is stellar and again I cannot say enough about the beer selection.

Another one I forgot to mention is the "Honey Hole" which has good beers and a seriously awesome sandwich selection.
