Lets Go Crazy - Prince
Money( that's what I want) - The Fying Lizards
B1ch1n' Camero - Dead Milkman
One Step Beyond - Madness
California Uber Alles - The Dead Kennedys
Wot - Captain Sensible
Wot
(Captain Sensible/aka Ray Burns)
When I woke up this morning I was feelin' fine
But this cat starts banging man what a swine
So I called reception but to no avail
That's why I'm telling you this sorry tale
It went bang - I said shut up
It went bang - I said rap up
Well I'm aware that the guy must do his work
But the pile-driver man drove me berserk
He said Captain, I said wot, he said Captain, I said wot
He said Captain, I said wot, he said Captain, I said wot d'ya want
I said Captain, he said wot, I said Captain, he said wot
I said Captain, he said wot, I said Captain, he said wot d'ya want
Once a lifetime, twice a day, if you don't work you get no pay
I been to the east been to the west
But the girls I like most are the ones undressed
Well, hello Adam, where you been?
I said a'stand aside 'cause I'm feelin' mean
I've had a gutful of you and I'm feelin' bad
'Cause you're an ugly old pirate and ain't I glad
He said Captain, I said wot, he said Captain, I said wot
He said Captain, I said wot, he said Captain, I said wot d'ya want
I said Captain, he said wot, I said Captain, he said wot
I said Captain, he said wot, I said Captain, he said wot d'ya want

Captain Sensible was a nut ball. The original Damned was great with songs like Neat Neat Neat etc...
but i was happy once he and Brion James left the group. I think the Damned's greatest stuff was after they left.
and of course Brion James went on to be in one of my favorite groups of all times "The Lords Of the New Church"
But yes tim "wot" was a great silly song.

Wow, I can't believe no one has mentioned Joy Division! They are pretty inspirational. New Order was OK too..
80's music has a reputation for sucking, but I will always love it. It's so sappy and happy. Every once in a while Cat Club on a Thursday night is fun when served with enough long islands.
For me, I was a little punk with a walkman and I always had music. My dad and uncle would make tapes for me back in the day. I like just about all of it, but Pink Floyd gives me mad chickenskin. Stops me in my tracks. I still have all my dad's old vinyl I used to play when I was a kid. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I've heard that but I didn't follow the Strangler much after their first couple of albums. I remember Peaches and No more heros. My friend was into them but got pissed off for some reason and traded his albums in.
Wot got alot of airplay on KALX when I first came over here. That and the "double cheeseburger onion rings and a large orange drink" skit for some reason are memorable.
I think this was it

OMG, how the hell did i forget to add these guys to either of my three lists.
"The Fields of the Nephilim: (the whole 'Nephilim' album) but if i had to pick just one track it would have to be "Last Exit For the Lost" all (9:42min) of it.

Well i didn't give up on Pink Floyd, but most of thier best stuff was recorded in the 70's
i have
"Dark Side of the Moon" (c.1973)
"Wish You Were Here" (c.1975) thier best in my opinion
"Pink Floyd The Wall" (c.1979)
"Is There Anybody Out There? The Wall Live" (c.1980 released 2000)
"A Momentary Lapse of Reason" (c.1987)
"The Division Bell" (c.1994)
i never got in to thier first few recordings, but guess i should go back and listen to them some time. True fans swear by them.

"Wish you were here" was disapointment when it came out. It sets a mood but I don't think it's anywhere as strong musically as DSM. I always thought of is a the "pink floyd bites the had that feeds" album.
"The Wall" just seemed like the height of commercial pretension at the time. PF cashing in on the whole punk, angry youth thing that was a big deal in the UK. I was way too cool for it. When they released "We don't need no Education" as a single it just seemed like too much of an easy sell to every record buying teenager. Our joke at the time was "All in all, you're just another pr!ck who went and bought the wall." We were just soooo cool. 3 min songs (or shorter) were in and I had moved on. Not sure I have ever listened to the whole album and certainly nothing after that. I probably should give them a listen but there's lots to compete with.
My favs are Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Meddle, and the live disc from Ummagumma particularly "Careful with that Axe Eugene". I think it's some innate projected nostalgia for rolling in jello before it was just sleazy. Something that was before my time. There's a heavy folk influence in the early stuff but cool strange folk. Most of the rest are somewhat random collections of songs they did for movie soundtracks and are in that vein, "The Nile Song" is notable. And then there's the dreadful "Atom Heart Mother"- talk about pretentious twaddle - definately to be avoided IMO. The cow in the album cover is kinda cool though.
