But by the time you pay for shipping and DROS and addioltional FFL fees, you are looking in the $170 range...

Buy the (stripped) lower locally. Then buy the upper somewhere else. At calguns there was a thread for a built upper for $300 minus BCG and charging handle...

thanks for the info on buying the 100$ lower!

what tools do i really need to build the upper? only thing i see is a hammer punch vice and wrench for the delta ring no? i don't plan on building a BCG.

one thing i heard that was supper important was measuring the headspace.

so you need headspace gauges. and if you are only buying one AR, buying tools for a single purpose and in this case, single use... would be useless.

btw, stag just came out with their own gas piston upper. total price for a complete rifle is like $1200...

piecing together a lower is one thing and super fun, but piecing together an upper is a whole different story. Too much work for me.
for my first build, I used:
spike's tactical oll
cmmg and stag lpk (lol i lost some springs)
ar raddlock
magpul ctr
just a regular carbine buffer
CMMG 14.5" upper assembly
permanently attached yankee hill machine phantom 5c2 flash hider (nice aggressive end)
magpul rear mbus (gonna change this out for Troy once I get an optic.
lookin at that new burris scope, or a trijicon acog in 1.5x
also looking to get a omegalite 7.0 to get rid of my handguards.

edit: oh yeah, make sure you have some duct tape or electrical tape for hammering in that pin where the bolt catch release goes. so you don't scratch up your new lower receiver

what happens if you run a heavy round on a 1:9 twist? is that dangerous?
