An Automatic transmission is the better choice for drag racing for most people. You will have much more consistent Launches and consistent times down the track. Your RT will be the non constant variable.

I used to go to Sears Point to race in the bracket drags. I made it into the top 6 once cause I had my ET dialed in perfectly and nailed every launch perfectly. I just happened to go against a 60 year old man who know his car better than I knew mine.

So do you think the guy in the vid had a high stall since he was manual shifting the auto transmission? That Wrx does seem unusually fast for stage 2 against a 5 speed lol. Watching the vid I noticed no miss shifting by the Civic, seemed like a clean run. Also the Civic got the jump hahaha the Subies wheels were not in motion when the Civic launched.

And I've pulled many 5 speeds, even against other WRX's, for the first couple gears since, 1st goes to almost 40mph and second goes to 80ish. When they shift, you pull. But guaranteed, they catch you when they hit 3rd gear assuming mods are the same on both sides.

That is where you will see a noticeable difference when manually shifting. I just never had the time to have my car down for 2 weeks while I sent my valve body out to get modified.

Butt dyno wise, it felt faster. Shifts felt a little firmer. Rolling acceleration was really unchanged. I think the valve body mod would have had a bigger impact. Trying to accelerate from say 65 in second, it would not kick down to second. But it you got to 60, it would kick down into second and it would accelerate quickly. But I'd say with adding the converter and the lockup switch, it changed the 1/4 time from 15 something to low to mid 14's. So shaved a second off the 1/4 time.

This thread talks about it a little. Almost all info is found on nasioc and most of it by the last reply RiftsWRX. He was almost the pioneer when it came to the 4eat as it pertained to the WRX. I can't tell you exactly how it worked to improve times and feeling. But when I've hit the switch at over 5000rpm, the car pulled harder to redline. But it also throws a trouble code, AT Oil Temp light will come on and stay on until you turn the car off. It really is only needed and should be used for drag racing. Using it any other time doesn't make much sense.

Light Launch with Subie WRX STI - YouTube
Here's a light launch by my buddy. I believe he just the valve body and a high stall.
