Oil Filter Wrench
I need some input for a small but nagging problem. The toolboxes at the local lube shop (I normally do my own oil changes, but I had no time) put my oil filter on too tight with my ast oil change. So, I'm having one hell of a time getting the damn thing off. I'm no weakling, and certain unmentionable internet sites have provided me with some pretty strong grip over this over the years but I can't get the filter off with my bare hands due to the angle. This morning I bought one of those type B Oil-Filter Cup Wrenches that you attache like a socket. All of the measurements check out, but when I tried it at home, its tooth pattern doesn't allow it to fit the pattern on the OEM filter.
My question is, do any of you have any tricks/tools you know will work. I am using the newer style, smaller black OEM Subaru filters. It seem like most of the oil-filter removal tools won't have enough clearance to spin, which is why I used the cup style. Do you guys know of a cup style that will fit, or know of another removal tool that will work? Know any Bay Area chains that sell them? Thanks!

Are you talking about the steel strap ones that cinche down as you turn them? Those have enough room if you angle them huh? Thanks for the input cpnwrx13.
I just didn't want to spend money on something that may not have clearance to move. Jesus H. Christ, you have one of those stupid shops do an oil change one time for you, and they f'n overtighten it. Did they think this thing was load beariing or something?

Thanks for the offer Zoeb. I'm really wanted to buy one just incase I need it in the future. Do you know where you got it or anything? What type of wrench is it? If I can't find anything, I may just need to borrow that from ya.

I have no latex gloves, so I stole my GF dish cleaning gloves and gave those a whirl. Worked like a champ! I think I pullde something, but it beats having to make another trip to WalMart. Dan needs to hit my local WalMart with one of his missiles. Thanks for you help guys, and thanks for the offer Zoeb. Who new some kitchen gloves would do the trick. I'm gonna have to keep a pair on my tool chest.

I have an oil filter wrench that has teeth on it to clamp onto a filter. I used it on a few cars already (it kind of crushes the whole filter at the bottom, but it lets you turn to loosen it).
