I am not expecting to see him be a starter this year so it won't surprise me to see Alex Smith back for yet another year (or maybe we get some veteran in Free Agency), but it looks like we finally have a QB of the future.
After that pick I suspect we will still get a RB, maybe a WR & then the rest will be Defense (CB/DB being the primary Defensive need now).

I read this article last night.
Now, keep in mind this isn't a rumor. It's just a theory. But it makes sense.

...and I'm okay with what this guy is thinking.

While it may still happen that we get Kolb (although extremely doubtful at this point) I really do not believe we would have gotten Aldon Smith just to trade him away.
Kaepernick has a higher ceiling than Kolb. He is more raw at this point, but he is intelligent and is our future QB. He will probably need time to develop so I doubt we are going to throw him in to the fire (hence why they want Alex back for 1 more season). It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign Alex if we did go after another veteran QB to help be a stop-gap to get Kaepernick ready to take the reigns.
If Kolb does get traded (which is looking less likely now) I see him ending up somewhere like Arizona, Minnesota or Miami.

print Kolb and Alex Smiths stats
then cut off the name at the top...
put them in a hat and draw one out and tell me if you guess right who's stat you drew out.
what am i trying to say? they look identical on paper ... Kolb is not what the 9ers should be looking for

^ I agree. Many people have bought the hype that if Andy Reid thinks that Kolb can be the guy to replace McNabb, then he must be good. He has had a few good game and bad ones. He hasn't exactly been durable.
I have not heard this either, Andy Reid had not one but two possible QBs and one being Vick. You don't think that Reid knew exactly what he had in Vick. A very capable QB that had to take any role that he wanted him to play. No one was going to second guess him with naming Kolb. If Kolb didn't work out, he had Vick.

Eh, all the picks are in. Got a stud pass rusher, QB of the future, CB for overpriced aging secondary. A RB to share the load, lets see what Harbaugh coaching can do! (i'm not expecting miracles, but I am expecting about 3yrs when things are fully in place). So success? Not yet, but more than Singletary that's for sure.

Matt Maiocco reported that harbs has given the playbook to alex smith and is assuring that he will be on the starting roster for 2011
im a forgiving man and i hope that alex gets that fairy tale ending to his story.
from his numerous coaching changes, boo'd by his own fans, named a draft bust.
to being given this last shot with again a crippled franchise and becoming a superbowl MVP
a ESPN special... a 30/30
am i crazy? or are those who say Alex is a talented MVP quarterback that has been screwed by the system in S.F.
either way... this will be his last and final shot at proving to himself and no one else
so let the drama begin! im ready

Now that is a coaching staff. I especially like the Special Teams and DB coaches. That's going by the #'s where the 49ers get burned.
