Niners signed Westbrook, Hell Yeah!
I've been a HUGE Westbrook fan for a long time now. He obviously won't be our Main RB since Frank Gore is still a beast, but he definitely offers a very nice change of pace and another diverse threat. I definitely have to go see some Niners games this year now as I'd love to get his autograph.
For those that are rooting for Anthony Dixon, don't worry, he will still get his chances. Plus this is a very good thing for him to sit and learn behind a couple of the Best RB's in the business that can teach Dixon how to be an even better RB in the future.

I hope they don't let Robinson loose, he's talented we just don't really know where to put him.
And, like others have mentioned, I don't think Dixon should worry. He's a rook and still needs a couple years of preparation. Niners' got one hell of a running back stable for the present and future.
Anyone else think picking up Jeremiah Masoli (U. Oregon, SFcc, U. Mississippi) would be a good choice? He kind of reminds me of Steve Young in mobility and play making ability..
Plus it would be nice to see both bay area kids Jeremy Lin and Jeremiah Masoli to return home to their bay area teams.

Westbook was the only available choice. however, I still like Dixon > Westbook. Westbrook is aged, he isn't he Marshal Faulk he used to be. Dixon is the future, gives a big bang and put out quite a bit of extra agility.
Carr won the 2nd spot. Looked clean. 49ers should have saved some $$.
And a general comment not related... I sure hope they end the 4 preseason games and make it only 2. It's ridiculous the amount of slackoffs for a few of the games.

One more note, the 49ers starting lines did absolute crap. Indy pwned and picked up where the left off as Superbowl Challengers, wearing a defense down. 49ers D looked crappy + Offense didn't move the ball. More discouraged on that than the 2nd and 3rd strings doing stuff.

I honestly think it should be more of a progression. Instead of dropping from 4 to 2 games, it should be 4 to 3 games. Then if the need is still there drop it down to 2 games for the Preseason. We'll see what happens if they decide to change the schedule.

4 preseason games is pretty excessive. It's too risky for injuries, the ticket prices are still too high, and the starters only get a few reps while a bunch of rookies and last chance players go against each other for 3 quarters with vanilla playbooks.
2-3 games should be plenty to evaluate these players.

Brian Westbrook is a nice pick up. The guy can't play a full season anyway. Might as well get a part time stud to play behind Frank Gore and let Dixon learn. LOL. I can't quite comment on Alex Smith. If he got better pass protection, we'll see what he can do. However, if he has all day to throw and he still messes up, buh bye. It's hard to not pad up the stat sheet with Gore, Crabtree, and Vernon Davis on that roster.

News reports confirm he'll start. Maybe the 49ers won't get pwned from 30+yards out in the back of the end zone this time. Then again, preseason is a joke, most teams don't play their definite starters anymore... not even the 49ers who did absolute **** with STARTERS OUT! Why have a damn preseason with all the starts not even playing? Might as well just have 1 preseason game, split all the tryouts through each quarter, and then start the season. 49ers make absolute 0, and I mean zerooooooooooooo sense to not play starters to test how good their O really is.
Seriously I badmouthed the 49ers last game. They got chewed up on both sides of the ball and all the "49er fans" come out with these 'brilliant' responses:
"yea retard without p ***** or aubrayo franklin in the mix it doesnt mean ****. you think a defensive genius like greg manusky is going to give up his defensive schemes in a preseason game? learn something about football before you even dare to call yourself a niners fan or even a football fan. last year manning had 0 passing tds. your a godamn fool"
Yea... we LET them win, we don't want to give up REAL schemes... that's what preseason is about.
and
"You my friend are stupid, half our starters didn't even play. I think you need to go back and watch the game over again. "
If that's your excuse to why Alex smith couldn't hit a good pass or the 49ers got beat deep, then seriously that's a lame excuse. Might as well only have 1 preseason game, and 19 regular season games. Make the season worth it and make it count.
