Flacco got paid after not signing an extension before the Season, played out the season and ended up Winning the Super Bowl that year. It was a gambled that paid off huge for him.
That extension seems to be crippling the Ravens though as they have lost their identity on the Offense (now with the Ray Rice incident who knows what is going to be the fall-out from that which could be an even greater blow to the team). That deal pretty much forced them to get rid of Bolden (Thank You John Harbaugh ).
Those massive contracts don't seem to last very long without the team going to the player and asking them to either restructure their deals, lower their deals or just letting them go.

Kaep doesn't get money until he produces a Superbowl Ring.
For all we know, even Alex Smith brought the team to the Championship game.
Kaep doesn't get money until he gets a ring, plain and simple.
Brady has some (even took a damn pay cut)
Manning's have one or more
Brees has one
Rodgers has one
This is why they're paid the big bucks, you don't get squat unless you produce. IMO, Kaepernick has a lot to prove, so I wouldn't expect the Niners to lock him down until the end of this upcoming season to see what he does or really has to prove.
I am against a massive contract for Kaep. If anything, another 2-3 years, the Niners now need to get over the Seattle hump and FINISH.
That'd be the only point, or seasonal point I'd make as a coach.
Finish.
I forgot who I was listening to on the radio, I think it was Jerry Rice, but he told the hosts that back in his hay day they were all about finishing, and the Niners gotta finish. They can get there, but they gotta man up the last 2 games and really show they want it more than everyone else.
2014-2015, finish.
As for the whole Harbaugh trade thing, it's just noise from the Browns. I'm sure the Browns wanted to talk a trade and I'm 110% completely sure that the office shut 'em down.
Harbaugh is the man, yes he hasn't got the ring, but he's been close 3 times. I think it's up to the players to make the final play. The coaches have done their part, it's the players that need to finish.
