I think we all know about SGP by now, but they will run out as well....

Exactly, a long term test.

Overall, I am with Paul on this one. People have been using Fram and similar aftermarket oil filters for a long time. Until there is actual proof one way or another, I am not going to stress over whether a filter has metal end caps or paper.

Thanks for the heads up though! Interesting thread. Oh BTW, isn't Honeywell the parent company of Garrett?

seems like common sense lies somewhere in between, "my engine will explode because of my oil filter and nothing else," and, "just stuff a bunch of folded paper up there you dont really need a filter anyway."

well after careful consideration and speaking with a lot of folks at subaru. I have come to this conclusion.

I will continue to use the OEM filters for our regular maintenance cars, as they have assured me they are designed for a subaru (and I agree with everyone on, since when has a car failed b/c of a filter, and solely b/c of the filter). Also I pride myself in doing the services that the dealer offers for a fraction of the cost, this is using there parts which I'm obligated to do as that's what my business model is based on.

On our "Performance" service you will have an option of a OEM filter or a WIX filter.

For track prepped cars, we will recommend a WIX filter.

*in addition, I'm locating a few hundred of the black filters while all this settles in

What I find amusing is that folks worry about an oil filter, but install cheap/inferior quality go fast parts.

Go figure.
