NRG Gas Hood Dampers
These work great, only thing is they RUST, and pass the rust onto your rust free car! I can't beleive they used cheap hardware on these. I don't live in Maine, there should be zero rust after only 1 year.
NRG, I hope you take care of this. I mean this is a 35k car that is only 2 yrs old and your dampers are only 1

damn.....that's crappy. You should be able to get that out but they should take care of that.
I'd pull the struts. Rub off the rust on the car with a rag soaked in vinegar. Then follow with a clean rag...water...etc.
Take those struts and send em back. If they're gonna jack you around. Soak the end of them in vinegar over night.
I knew there was a reason I didn't want the chrome lookin ones......aren't those suppose to be STAINLESS.

it is not normal to have an underhood functional/appearance based product rust like this. I have a hard time believeing that you'd just turn your eyes from it and not be irked. The description on NRG's site says durability...made from stainless. It SHOULD not rust like this...specially in california. I am sure NRG will make it right.
and as per the get what you pay for statement? Don't these cost more than the tein product? It's as good or better than most on the market......apparently you don't think Prova's hood struts are OVERPRICED.
go back to the SCIC and your honda.

why does everyone think I have a honda?
Tein dropped the price of their product to compete with NRG since NRG was flooding the market with their pieces. Much like how body kit companies dropped their prices to eliminate the knock off brands, Automotive manufactures are doing to same.
Odds are NRG will replace the part to keep you content, however I doubt this is an isolated incident. I have a pair of NRG hood dampers at home. I intended on installing them, but the shock kept failing, then the lock pins kept breaking. NRG replaced all the items at no charge to me, but I ended up leaving them off my car. I can test the hardware if it these rusts the same.
