the norcal bay area 1 day road trip

I need a suggestion for a 1 work day road trip.

I'm gonna take a day off but I need the trip to "be contained" within about a work day's time (ie 8am to 6pm) starting from san jose.

I'm looking for a nice drive in the WRX:
- scenic
- small stops along the way
- twisties optional

I'm thinking about taking saratoga 9 through the mountains to the coast hwy 1 and then head south and proceed beyond carmel/bigsur but that's about all I know. I don't know where to stop (except random coastline stops). I'll return via santa cruz hwy 17.

also would be interested in going NORTH across the gg bridge etc.

But remember, the round trip must be contained within a work day's time.

Ideas?

Either of those are good options, Once you are past Carmel on 1 you pretty much need to come back that way, because looping out either Nacimiento or Paso Robles will probably take too long.

Once you are north of the GG there are multitudes of options, Coast highway just being one of several really fun roads between the ocean and 101.

I'd say hop out to the coast vis LaHonda, head north cross the GG, go out to Stinson up to Point Reys/Tomales and farther up the coast if you have time then come back through back roads in Sonoma

Going on the Doc Wong drive is pretty nice, head up 280 from San Jose to Redwood City. Start there in the hills, go into small inland town roads with nice curves, eventually end up along Hwy 1. Lunch at this cool place in Davenport. Back into the mainland and eventually end up on Hwy9 close to home.

The route is on his website

Right! I do this one every once in awhile. I love it.

But I need something different this time.

I'd be down for a road trip. The 9-1-17 is a good route, I have done it once before.

That route going hella north bay looks a little intense though.

I've done 9-Skyline-84-1-17, starts and ends in downtown Los Gatos. If you need to stop there are a handfull of nice parking lots off of Hwy 1.

I just did a drive to the avenue of the Giants. From SF it took about 2.5 hours to get there. It was pretty awe inspiring and beautiful.
