I have to go clean up my keyboard now.

Interesting.... she doesnt have her eye patch yet. Looks like it may be a prequel of sorts for the books. I can't wait. Appleseed is Shirow's greatest work.

I hear January 14th is the release date in the US. It wasn't mentioned, but I assume it is a limited theatrical release.

The Japanese DVD fansub has been available online for at least a few weeks.

Depends on what kind of genre you're into... for cyberpunk stuff, try Ghost in the Shell. Akira is kind of a classic, but very strange towards the end. Ninja Scroll and Wicked City are kinda fun too.

It also depends if you want anime movies or series because there are tons of both.

That is really dependent on what your tastes are. You can find an Anime Movie, OVA (mini-series), or Series covering just about any and every genre known to man. If you really want to get into anime, get bittorrent and find some good fansubs.

My Recommendations:
---------------------------

Hagane no Renkinjutsushi (Full Metal Alchemist): Tragedy/Drama/Sci-fi about two kids who lose their mother and pay a heavy price in trying to get her back

Naruto: An often light-hearted Drama about growing up in a city of Ninjas

One Piece: Another light-hearted Drama about friendship... and Pirates

Hajime no Ippo: A story about a kid who wants to become a boxer and his journey to the featherweight title

Cowboy Bebop: Outer-Space, Bounty-hunters and Jazz

Samurai Champloo: Japan, Samurai and Hip-hop

Bleach: A new comedy series about a punk kid who becomes a soul-hunter

okay, who needs a copy of the fansub?

you can snag it via BT from www.boxtorrents.com

Oh, and speaking as a jaded anime fan who's worked tons of conventions and/or know the people who run them (Anime Expo, Anime Central, Ohayocon, Animazement, Animania, etc.), if you really want suggestions, you have to decide on 1) genre and 2) age group. Lots of anime are aimed at specific age groups. Anime like *shudder* Dragon Ball does not compare to .... say.. Ghost in the Shell or Bebop. Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto do not compare to hentai titles like Urotsukidoji. You also have to narrow your focus a bit to what genres you are looking for (sci fi, fantasy, romance, drama, comedy, etc.) because there are literally thousands of titles available. Length is a big issue as well. Do you want something short like Perfect Blue, or do you want something episodic and serial like Naruto? Are you looking for full length animation features, series, or OAVs?

God.. I don't even know why I'm posting to this thread! GAH!! YOU GOT ME STARTED ON ANIME!! FIE!! FIE!!!!!

Good list, Avatar. I'll add one series even though the people who sub it are slow as hell to release.

Yakitate Japan. It's an anime about making bread. Yeah, sounds wack, but it's actually pretty damn funny.

You can find it on http://www.animesuki.com

Don't forget about Rurouni Kenshin. You can find it on box torrents, as well. Get that and the Samurai X movies.
