Newb question, filled 5.2 quarts on accident during oil change, should I drain some
Hey there, changed my oil and didn't realize the new container holds 5.2 quarts instead of 5, which is what I usually put in.
My dipstick seems to read a little bit above the max,
Is this bad? do you all recommend I drain some out?
Driving tons of miles per day so I don't want to let it go and f myself if its a problem.
Thanks for the help, btw im an idiot not a newb.

Was pretty far over the full mark, debating what to do. I can easily become paranoid like brucelee, as I depend on my car for a lot of driving/work. Unfortunately I have no tools or anything at my current location so, i'd prefer not to buy anything at all if I don't have to as Im living cheap. At the same time I dont want oil coming out my valve covers or damaging the motor somehow...

i used to always put the suggested fill which is like 4 something quarts but over the past few oil changes and asked vendors and they mentioned to just put the whole 5 jug in.

When I was using Mobil 1, I'd burn through 1 whole quart every 1,000 miles, but now that I'm using Total 5w30 (Bought from GST, this oil seriously ROCKS, so does Motul and Swepco, but Total happens to be what I use), now I don't burn oil AT ALL... It's been 4k since my last oil change and the oil is still clearish, has good viscosity (unlike mobil 1, which turns to black water in 2k miles), and the oil fill line is EXACTLY where it was on the day that I changed my oil.
To answer the question, if I was using crappy oil, like Mobil 1, I wouldn't bother draining it... But using Total, I'd drain it because I know it's not going to burn off... lol.
I actually accidentally put over 5 quarts of oil in my car a couple of oil changes ago and had to drain the excess, even though it might be ok, I was paranoid and it would have bothered me until I drained it, so I just did it while the car was still lifted when I changed the oil. Its not hard to drain it and should only take you 10 mins (took me like 15mins to change my oil, and that was with a broken arm! So you have no excuse unless you're missing your arms)
