New tires from Costco...same old ???s

Hey all,

After 46k miles on the '09, it's time for new rubber. Cause I'm lazy, I'm probably just going to order from Costco and have them do it.

From what they offer, I'd love to go with the RE-11s and get some *real* traction on the car, just to have some fun. But its sounds like the S-04 Pole Positions would be a pretty decent max summer upgrade from the OEM Dunlop SP Sport 01, and have a chance of lasting nearly as long as well.

What kind of tread life should I expect with the RE-11s? Are they gonna go bald in 15k? I don't x-cross or track and I'm not street racing or peeling out from lights. I put ~15k miles annually freeway and local, and quite honestly the extent of my spirited driving is whipping it around a onramp or offramp when I have the chance.

best all around tire for a daily driver are the Michelin pilot super sports(PSS). re-11 will probably be more than you need for dd use.

Yeah, they'd be my first choice if sold at Costco! But for now, my selection is limited by my laziness/availability.

But let me add another question. If I order PSS, where would you guys go to get them installed on the Peninsula?

they sell tires that fit our cars at Costco? I remember going there when I had a 325is and they didn't sell 225/40/r17. THey said that they didn't carry tires that "low profile" with a rim diameter of 17. Of course, that was like 8 years ago

whoops did not know they were not available at costco. if you want ultimate laziness, order from tirerack and select the option to have it delivered to one of their recommended installers.

All the local bay area Costcos have in stock in 225/45r17 are Michelin Primacy MXM4 all-seasons. Pbbt. Gotta order online and have them deliver to the warehouse.

I'll look around to see where I can get PSS delivered/installed. Otherwise it sounds like I'll go with the S-04s.

pilot sports suckkkkkkkk i dont like them....

Try the s-04s out!!! I wanna see how those do.

Re-11s are garbage you may get 10k out them. at that point pay less for starspecs rs-3s or federal RSRs.

which pilots are you referring to? The only bad side to the pilot super sports(PSS) are the price. On all of the forums the pss have crazy good reviews. Now im talking about them being a good all around tire. if you want more track performance then go with the z1 star specs

$204 a piece on special thats way too expensive. Not only that its a pilot sport line, the tread doesnt last as long pretty sure they will be gone before a set of starspecs would give out.

I ran the originals on my 09 for about 15k, didn't last much longer, how in the heck did you get yours to go this long?

My second set were the Potenza RE760's, which I really liked, and they've lasted longer than the Sport 01's that came with the car. Price is right too.

Already bought my next set (Conti DW's) but won't be putting them on for a few thousand miles. Price was right, and figured I'd try something new.

FWIW, I use my car as a spirited daily driver and not on the track (yet).

^^^yeah the Bridgestone re760 sports are nice. Good ride quality and decent grip. Currently I'm falling back in love with the re070! Had them stock on my STi and have been through 4 others.. (sumitomo HTRZIII, re01R, Dunlop Z1 star spec, re760 sport). Hands down I prefer the re070, wish I had switched back sooner but the cost is hefty.

I'm coming to accept the fact that my driving is a lot more pedestrian than I'd like (work commute in rush hour traffic, etc.).
