While I've only used Sprint and Verizon in SoCal (I'm currently down here for school) I haven't seen a huge difference in coverage. Maybe Verizon might get 1 bar better in certain areas, but nothing major enough to warranty the significant increase in price.

Also, Sprint retentions is a great department, and if you complain about anything, they'll hook you up. For example, you say you live in the mountains, so there's not a lot of coverage. Call up complaining about it and I've seen a lot of customers say Sprint will give you a free Airave. This uses your wireless router/internet to create a small tower so you'll get perfect service at home.

Also, if you're set on Android, get the swype keyboard (in fact a lot of android phones already come with it). Takes < 2 minutes to learn how to use if you know the layout of a normal qwerty keyboard, and it's the best touch keyboard out there. I was kind of afraid at how hard it might be to use, but it's surprisingly simple and really good at telling what word you want to input.

for the record, wirefly is the best deal out there for buying phones.. one you get the phone with them, you can call Verizon/Spring/ATT/T-Mo and have the student discounts added on

Ya, I checked them out. Amazon is also good. Actually were cheaper and accept the student discounts to surprisingly.

Oh, and I will get swype.

Pretty much between tmobile with student discount and unlimited everything or sprint with student discount.

Tmobile will let me call using wifi.
The sprint thing mentioned where they make you a "minitower" is pretty sweet to.
