If your job doesn't help you with medical insurance it's too expensive for most people. Medical insurance without employer assistance is super expensive.

Medical bills are also completely out of line in this country. I had my appendix taken out and the total bill was deep into the 40k range. It's like a 15 minute surgery and it's outpatient. I don't understand where they got the 40k from, but people tell me it's from paying their own insurance....I have a good nurse friend that makes a lot of money though to, so that might be it also...maybe I should change careers. Her homework was easier than my homework in college for sure...and she makes more money than me. I don't understand how that works, but ok lol.

Health insurance covered my ***. I only paid $750 for operation and 2 hospital stay that would have cost $42,000.

I think so. It's funny when they sent me the "This is not a bill" receipt - my jaw dropped when I saw the total.

I broke my ankle real good...snapped that 'lump' on the inside of the ankle right off. Would have cost me ~75k. Luckily I have insurance through work and payed ~$450 after two surgeries (one night in the hospital) and 8 post op visits.

I had never thought about it before, and just had the default insurance through work, but I'll never go without medical insurance again. It saved my ***.

thanks guys!

btw, do you guys think it's unfair to ask about auto insurance in a car forum? As in, most of the people that 'care' about their car (which should be most if not all the people in this forum) would have auto insurance? If I go outside of the auto forums, I might get a different ratio?

Thanks,

Leo
