did you try both antenna ports, it's meant to go on the receive side, depending on the model of router you can force which antenna is which, but some you may only be able to do that with aftermarket firmware. You could also bosot the power, so you wouldn't even need a new antenna, again depending on model.

The matched linksys antenna pair work best because you don't have to worry which side is which, and they work with all linksys routers.

With an aftermarket firmware. I have a V1.1 WRT54G at work(spare I use for tinkering, mostly so I can use wifi with my phone since our interal key won't work on my phone) that I can flash with wifibox or sveasoft firmware that you can try out if you want. I don't recommend flashing unless you are really familiar with doing stuff of that sort. You can brick them, but thankfully they are recoverable.

If you router is one of the following except the ones noted not to be flashable(non linux) then you can reflash it.

The early wrt54G had linux, but that stopped after V4 and renamed the WRT54G to GS and came out with a new G. Confusing? Yep

Wow thanks man, ill probably pick out the first choice. But I'm curious where do you find the aftermarket Firmware and can you really tell the difference with the extra boost? Does it really work?

All you can do is turn up the amplifier power, but the broadcom chips don't handle it very well. The default is 23mW, the most you can boost it to is 251mW, but at that point is some what useless unless you slap a couple of higher gain antennas on.

I am currently running Sveasoft, but am lening towards switching to dd-wrt if they don't fix some of the **** that is broken.

word of advice - dont use anything but the linksys linux versions of their routers. I had all sorts of reliability issues when I traded a friend for a new version (he wanted my nix ver to experiment w/ firmware stuff) and I had nothing but problems. Due to popular demand though, linksys released em again so go out to frys or something and buy one.

Alright, the nightmare is back... it's worst now...

So after the move it got a lot better, with drop like once a week or something. But now, for about 2 weeks, it dies like every 2 minutes. They send someone out to look at the box out side and said it's good. I have 3 phone jacks and none are connected to any phones. One connects to the modem and I replaced the RJ11 wire as well. I also try moving it to another jack and still no good. I am running out of ideas.

Two more things I'll do before I call it quit. First, (where I need you guys to help me) I need to borrow someones newer DSL modem for a few days. If that doesn't work, then I need to call them in and pay $65 or so to have them tell me what's wrong.

So, who has a DSL modem sitting at home and not being used? I have an old *** SpeedStream 5100 from like 4-5 years ago. I should have cancelled my DSL service last time duing my renewal and signup again to get a new DSL modem.

If you are wondering why not cable, it's because I don't want to pay that much and I don't need that high of a speed. I don't download much, I just need a stable connection.

haha, SBC woes....

i have a SpeedStream. i finally had an issue where all 5 lights ( power ethernet DSL internet and activity ) would flash, then only the power, ethernet, and DSL light would be lit, and the internet light would flash. turns out my modem overheated. SBC just FedEx'ed me a new one in two days. not too bad. also, make sure the filter is plugged into your phone line. if not, youre going to have woes.....
