need a new bank-help me choose
long story short, wellsfargo blows. i swear they make up their fees. for example i do almost 100% of my banking on line. they say that you can only transfer from savings into checking 6x in a month or they charge you 10$ each time you go over. im tired of fee after fee with no explanation and im REALLY tired of the attitude i get when i challenge the fees asking for proof of these so called "federal laws"
so,who do you guys bank with? i want to open a simple account with a large sum of cash. i have 2 other banks i deal with for bills and such but this new bank will handle my first deposit of 75k and hopefully not charge me fees when i want to play with my play money.

6x a month Is a federal law all banks have to follow this law. I use Provident for all my banking and they just don't allow you to move anything after you've used up your 6 transfers for the month, but $10 a transfer Is BS lol Id say the hell with them too haha

The transfers are only regulated online - in person you can transfer as many times as you'd like. The law is created to prevent money laundering, supposedly, but is something that the banks backed in order to screw the consumer.
As far as banks go, go with a credit union, somewhere local to you. Fees are either low or non-existent. I don't pay fees at all, unless I were to overdraft.

Just use two checking accounts if you're going to be doing lots of transfers. With rates as low as they are it doesn't really matter if a chunk isn't in a high yield savings.

now before someone says i need to manage my money better just read. last friday i left to go hunting for closing season. well friday nite we got dumped on by snow/60+ mph winds. the tent we used for storing gear collapsed. ALL my clothes and gear got wet or ruined. i ended up having to buy stuff in placeville to continue my hunt. i figured worst case i would get hit with a couple fees but not 315$ worth of fees.

All big banks are the same, a lot of the time when you call a call center its luck of the draw if you get someone that cares about you. That said, if they don't reverse the charges I wouldn't blame you for moving. With $70k on deposit I would be surprised if they stood firm. Banks want to retain money right now.

it was nice though that i could transfer money to any other bank im with or to family members. but def not worth that much in fees.
