Are these other tires any good in the rain? I definitely dont want a tire geared towards the wet, but the ps2's seem to handle it so well.

Still don't understand if the PORSCHE SPEC PS2 Is any different?
all the tires list above at least A, if not AA in wet conditions.

i love my star specs..they do really well in the rain as well..

a few months back in rain on 101, my gf said she couldnt drive behind me in my lane because my tires were kicking more water up than any other car on the freeway, and she simply could not see even when 7-10 car lengths behind..

Yeah, that's what I did my last track day. Just went with stock 32-33psi (cold) pressure and it eventually went up to ~40 psi. And it wasn't even hot that day. But then I heard from a very experienced person that in order to prevent the tire heating up one needs to pump more air before the run... Like ~40psi (cold). Then the pressure expansion will be significantly less (tire will generate less heat as there is much less side wall flex). And heat seems to be a problem with Star Specs (at least on autocross). So, I'm just bugging myself with all these questions

Those XS's have gotten some pretty good reviews, I might have to consider them next time since they're $200 cheaper than the star specs...
I'm looking at XSs too but a bit scared by their wet ratings. Well, at least people are saying that XSs are not as bad as RT-615

How do they wear compared to Z1 SS? Faster or the same?

that's a good idea, I'll try that next time. Does he start at 40, then release air to keep it at 40? Or does he drive at 45? Is that for HPDE or AutoX? What heat problem were you having with star specs no autoX, not building heat fast enough?

I don't have a complete picture in my head on how he's doing that I'll try to ask him. But his main point was to reduce excessive pressure build up (which is just a follow up of the heated air) by getting more air inside the tire _before_ running. That may sound counter intuitive (and I never thought about that before) but the explanation about side wall flex seems to be reasonable.

Is that for HPDE or AutoX?
That's I'm trying to find out now I kind of confirmed that on AutoX when I started with 40psi cold but a bit afraid to do the same on a track.

I think they become greasy when they heat up (that happens fast BTW). I'm usually OK the first 1-3 runs and then start feeling that tires are not holding as well as before. Maybe I just overdrive them (mine are hot). But the result is pretty consistent. And I've read before that Z1 SS tires do not like heat. So, need to keep the heat down. And the question is how to do it properly on a track. That was one of the reasons why I was looking at Kumho XS - they like heat FWIK.

Wear remains to be the seen. RS3 is super new to the market. Can't say yet.

I went with ps2.

I just didn't have time to try and get a ride on rs3's this time around. Gotta try it before I drop the cashola at this point, everyone raved on the re10r and frankly those tires were poop.
