Need info about housing in fairfield/Vacaville

I've been asking around the forums I frequent about information pertaining to Fairfield and Vacaville. I'm moving out to Fairfield this fall, more specifically Travis AFB. Just wanted to know what the surrounding cities are like and where would be a good place to live. Don't mind commuting a little but don't want to spend an hour driving. I posted this in the Sacramento forum but someone suggested I try here.

And anyone have an idea on what the commute would be like from Pinole to Travis?

just trying to cover all my bases. I was under the impression that vallejo was kind of undesirable. But I would like to live closer to the bay as I'm sure the weather is better. What's the ghettoness ratio in the cities you've mentioned?

all four mentioned are relatively ghetto lol. i personally would rather live in vallejo than in fairfeild or vacaville. and the closer you get to the water the more expensive it is so less ghetto. haha

Fairfield is relatively ghetto. But my GF and I went around looking at places to live, there are really affordable condo's in a nice area that doesn't look like it's trouble. PM me and i'll try to get that info to you.

Vacaville is the best place. Fairfield is a dump. Traffic is a mess on 80. Gas is coming down but it adds up. There are nice places to be had in Vacaville. Rent a home $1400 then add gas to how far your commute is. It adds up quickly

Vacaville is chill. Not far at all from the base if you live near peabody/Alamo. I grew up in vacaville and we never partied in airfield or Vallejo.

Does anyone here think living at home, Pinole, would be worth the money saved in rent versus the time and money spent in commuting back and forth? And lets just say for arguments sake the money I'd save in rent would be around $1000

If living at home isn't practical, even with saving money in rent, I might just have to go to live in Vacaville.

I'd say take the time to do some drives and see how many mpgs you get and total up the amount of how many drives you'll be making. Add costs of maintenance products, car parts and whatever extra costs you'd have to make monthly vs living in Fairfield. There are some other places in Fairfield/vacaville that are cheaper.
