Question Need help installing brake pads

As the title states, I need some assistance installing brake pads and quite possibly stainless steel brake lines. I just wanted to see if there was anyone out there that knows how to do it but is willing to help guide me so that I am able to learn how to do it myself. I would prefer it if someone can meet up with me to help me out, if possible. I am a hands on person so instructions online won't really help me since I need someone to physically be there showing me what I need to do.

I was also wondering that if I was to have used slotted rotors, do they need to be resurfaced before being installed?

I'll feed you if you help me lol.

Thanks in advance for all your help/input.

I can help you, I have to do my front rotors and pads too. Take off your rotors and get turned, its like 30 bucks and will give you way better results, pad life and braking.

Don't have to use slotted ones, you can reuse your rotors as long as they're thick enough to be turned.

What kind of pads are you putting in? I just installed HP+ pads in my 05 wagon. Make sure to put back the shims (metal plate backings) back on the pad. They reduce noise and vibration. Anti-seize helps reduce noise and vibration as well. Apply it to the ends of the pads. I guess some pads don't fit 100% and they move around, causing noise and vibration.

Can anyone verify this?

If you're doing stainless lines make sure you pick up a good set of flare wrenches. You don't want to strip the flare nut like so many of us have

I've done all this stuff - get a set of brake wrenches from Sears - they sell a nice metric set - and go to town. If I weren't leading a drive from Marin City tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. up to Petaluma, I'd help you out.

Roo, you might know the answer to this...

The 4 pots have a bracket thingy similar to the the STi Brembo's right? There is a pin that holds a clip/retainer thing for the brake pads. Remove the pins and take out the clips, and you can just slide out the old pads and slide in the new, correct?

Panda, as far as stainless steel lines go, make sure you pick up the necessary stuff for brake bleeding. You can use a Kirkland water bottle and some clear plastic hose to do that.

Off the top of my head...

Breaker bar
Torque wrench
8mm crescent wrench
10mm crescent wrench
10, 12, and/or 14 mm sockets
possibly extensions
C-clamp

u dont resurface slotted or cross drilled rotors. only blanks.

make sure u bleed the whole system b4 installing or taking any of the lines off, it'll just be less messy. there is an order u are to bleed the lines.

as posted, make sure u have flared wrenches, borrow some buy some. u will need it for the nut on the ss lines.

then u can go on installing the pads, the 4pots should have a retainer clip/pin u take off, then pull out and slide out the old pads. use clamps to push the pistons back in completely into the calipers. make sure u put plenty of grease in between the shims and pads (after you have cleaned the shims). install by reverse order.

make u sure bed the pads properly, and rotors too if they are new.

really...?? first time i heard that lol. everyone else tells me to just get new ones because it seems a bit hard to shave off a surface with holes and slots in them. well.. whatever works. if it were slotted or drilled rotors, i honestly wouldnt turn them, id just get new ones because theres enough metal missing on them lol.

only someone who replies owning a DSM would know you can.. please enlighten us..

to get back on topic, whenever I needed some work done I ask fellow member Daios he really knows his stuff, he usually excepts my small donation of a certain monetary value and does the work for me, but I'm not sure if he still does installs

yes i know. but i dont have the money to pay someone to do it especially if the reason why i made this thread was to see if there was someone out there willing to guide me so that i am able to do it myself. i dont expect anyone to do it for me and if i did, i would have asked someone to do it for me in the first place. and considering what i have done for daios in the past, im sure he understands if i dont feel that is necessary to put a dollar amount in helping someone who has helped him plenty of times when he needed help. but thank you for your recommendation. i appreciate it.
