Need brake expert help for 85 Corolla

My car seems to have been dragging its brakes and the pedal feels high at highway speed. The lines have been changed, new master cylinder was installed, new calipers and still the drag exists. Vacuum booster checks out fine, but I still think that's where the problem is. Any opinions?

Was the master cylinder that you swaped in a rebuilt oem or a new casting?

how much free play does the break pedal have before the brakes engage? I would check that first. It sounds like your brake pedal might be hanging up but, without checking it, I couldn't be sure.

Remanufactured master was swaped. There is barely any free play. It engages almost immediately at high RPM especially.

No problem!

Sometimes they loosen up on you with time and begin to drag the brakes. I would go very easy on the adjustment. ¼ turn at a time till you get some of the free play back.

Since you say that above, I'd guess it's the booster. RPMs only change how much vaccum the booster is seeing... check the lines to your booster and check valve if it has one. Usually, this only results in a stiff pedal though. It's possible to have a booster with a small leak, too... they usually go undetected.

When did this all start? Were all the new parts put in after you had the problem? You may have a pinched line, an air bubble, or maybe your homogenator fallopian tube is clogged.

I've had the problem since I got this car. I just got around to working on it when I started having shakes when I hit the brakes. The lines were checked and and seems to checkout fine. I was hoping it was just the pistons were sticking since it's 20 years old, but that didn't clear after replacement, but it did help bring back some free play when on low rpm. The fallopian tube checks out fine too. The last check up was clear.

Gino,

I'll be in later looks like. I f-ing hate hearing the front brakes squeeling. Maybe the rod was not adjusted when the new master was installed and it's not letting the piston go back in place. I'll see ya later.

Gino,

Everything is fixed. The vacuum booster rod was the culprit. Now I'm happy. On to the next project.
