Alright, so the i'm gonna pull the turbo and put the 48 in and run the Cobb vf39 ots map until I get my tranny and a full tune...just to be safe.

Just need to get this damn uppipe past the block now. my jack took a dump and is now broken so I can't lift the block. ugh.

Ed, thanks for the input. I'm going to go ahead and wait until I have the tranny in for the tune. Plus I have TGV's, 3 port, etc, the still need to go in before a dynotune. BTW, 1st gear on the RA set is actually longer than stock, the rest are close ratio.

I don't know if I can agree with you on that, to me it's noticable shorter. But I haven't seen the actually gear ratio numbers side by side in awhile so idk...

Less load means its less likely to knock, so a good tune done on a USDM 5MT should have absolutely zero issues running on an RA. gearset.

Thanks

Thanks for clearing that up Ed. I didn't notice the earlier post that Alliedforces86 made but yes on a good tune it will not matter as the ecu only cares for load and rpm and how much fuel to inject and etc. not so much as what the gears are. You can have a six speed on a wrx and you will be ok just as long as the tune is set up correctly.

Ron you ok? Not trying to thread jack but dude how can you even type you can barely talk on the phone.

Edit- Guys, Ron is not drunk so quit texting me and quit calling him and you know who you are. He is on prescribe meds due to an injury/surgery and way out of it yet still responding to peoples post. I won't take his words for a grain of salt right now even though he's good with cars. Probably hate me tomorrow. I don't usually post but he is seriously out of it just trying to help a friend out.

Ya, the Ver. 6 STi type RA gears have a longer first gear than stock. Wierd, I know. Makes them great for rallyx and autox but poor for drag racing....which I can care less about.

I can have it for you tomorrow evening.

Sure, i'll trade you my td04 and then i'll give you my tranny and block as soon as they blow up.

Headers are all ready to go. Didn't have to split the uppipe from it either. The motor mounts were a PITA to get back in straight though!

Got all the heat shields for it to.

When I bought my car, it was tuned by GST and still had it's 5 speed that eventually blew 3rd. I swapped in a 6MT and had no issues what so ever with how the car ran on that tune setup. Eventually got another tune by Ed after making a bunch of changes in the engine compartment.

I should keep calling but he might intentionally blow up my car when he tunes it.

Hey hey hey.... I was partly right. Not bad for someone that can't talk on the phone and not think right.

On serious note- Snowflow you'll be ok with the vf48 on the vf43 map and make sure you prime the turbo prior to starting as a safety precaution.

Regards,

Ron

Dumb question, but safe. How do I prime the turbo?

Pull the ignition IGN fuse or so on the fuse box inside your car. When you sit down on your car the fuse box is located in the coin tray where your left knee is at. Pull the tray out and the fuse box will be there and you can pull the fuse out and if my memory serves me right 15a. Crank the engine 3 times each time for 15sec.

Ron
