NBC Pays Conan O’Brien and His Staff $45 mil to Leave THE TONIGHT SHOW...
Did not see a post about this yet, so I thought I share...and the best bit is Conan absolutely raping NBC's expense account to go out on a high note!

The final settlement between Conan O’Brien and NBC over the Tonight Show fiasco comes to a whopping $44 million to the network. $33 million comes from paying off CoCo and another $12 million to pay off Coco’s staff. Additionally, Conan won’t be able to launch a new show until September 1st, which isn’t a big deal since that’s how long it would take to put together a new show anyway. Conan’s last episode as host of The Tonight Show will be this Friday with Will Ferrell and Tom Hanks as the confirmed guests.
But just because they’ve asked Conan to go away, it doesn’t mean he’s not going to use up the show’s budget before he goes. Last night he spent $1.5 million dollars to put mouse ears and whiskers on a Bugatti Veyron, the most expensive car in the world. He then played the “sketch” to The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” which costs NBC crazy money in royalties. He then remarked that it would cost NBC to re-air the clip online. NBC took heed of this warning and the clip has not appeared on either Hulu or NBC.com. That’s why we’ve found an embed from someone else who uploaded it and included the video after the jump!

I can't believe NBC screwed up this badly, and for what? To keep Jay Leno? He's gotta retire sometime, right? I mean, how much longer can he host that show anyway? what is NBC going to do when Leno retires or dies from a heart attack? They should have kept Conan, I can't believe they kicked themselves this hard. What idiots!
Edit: I cant see the link cuz Im on my phone, but is he off NBC, or just off the tonight show? Did he leave the network, or just the show? if they kicked him off the network then they are IDIOTS!

NBC definitely ****ed up, they should have just let Jay out of his contract when he asked for it, he could have gone somewhere else and Conan could have kept the Tonight Show.
I also think that Jay is taking a lot of un-warranted blaming... he was pretty much forced out when he was #1 and still wants to work, whats wrong with that?? No winners here, we all lose.

I like WWTDD.com's take on it:
So, to recap, Conan hosted a very successful and popular talk show on NBC for 16 years, but then his show moved 60 minutes earlier and NBC decided he forgot how to host a talk show. Then they freaked the **** out and panicked like some kind of woman. By some accounts this will cost NBC $250 million, partially because of lost ad revenue but mostly between moving Conan, firing Conan, hiring Jimmy Fallon, and creating a show for Leno. It’s fiscal leadership like this that took NBC from a $1.8 billion profit 8 years ago to a $600 million loss this year. Horny 16-year-olds think about the consequences of their actions better than this. You could take Steve Jobs, chase him with a bear, and he still would have figured this all out better than NBC did.

So he's no longer with NBC I take it? LOL, that clip (I finally got to see it) is funny as hell! A friggin Veyron dressed as a mouse, LMAO!
I wish I could give Conan a big fat hug and kiss for having such ***** to do this. What a friggin brilliant way to go out! LOL!
I liked Conan a lot better than Leno (I like Leno too though) and wish he got to keep his spot on the tonight show, it would have worked out well and I was really enjoying the show (as was everyone else I knew!). I'm curious to know where Conan is going to go after this... Whatever network to get him will be really lucky and I'm going to tune in regardless of where he goes.
He doesn't have to do anything for the rest of his life, he can just live off the interest of his current bank account and still make millions every year (5% interest on 5 million is almost $300,000 a year, and he has like 10x that amount, which means he can live off the interest and not touch his actual money).
Man, I wish I had $5,000,000 in my bank account so that I could just keep it in a high yield bank account and live off the interest for the rest of my life. Making $250,000 a year and having 5+ million in the bank on top of that would be friggin GREAT. I would never touch my 5 mill, just use the interest to pay my bills and be comfortable for the rest of my life. Damn, Imagine just making $250,000 every year for doing NOTHING...
Having that in mind you can see what idiots a lot of celebrities are... They have that kind of money and just spend it on gold toilets and ridiculous clothes/jewelry... Such a waste, but I guess they didn't deserve to have the money in the first place if they couldn't hold on to it. $250,000 a year is a NICE friggin paycheck and would allow you to do whatever you wanted to do full time, so if you wanted to go to school for the rest of your life and get like 20 degrees while still living in a fatty house and driving a fat car, you could totally do it without even touching your real money... Just using your interest earnings.
Damn, I'm so sad now, knowing that I will never be able to do that and will have to work like a sucker for the rest of my life. Damn stupid celebrities and their inability to hold on to a dime of their $$$. What friggin morons!
Think of idiots like MC Hammer who had over 100 MILLION dollars to their name, and now have NOTHING because they spent it on STUPID crap. If he would have just lived off the interest of that 100mill he could have lived a lavish lifestyle and still have a butt load of money in his account for the rest of his friggin life, but instead he wanted gold toilets and thought flashing his money around was the right way to spend it. IDIOTS!!!!
Wow, I got way off topic there.

It was my understanding that Conan sucked, ratings wise, at 11 and then gave it back to Leno for that reason. Am I correct?
Some keep posting that Leno wanted it back and NBC booted Conan at Leno's request.

^^ b4 the move,Leno was doing good in ratings and Conan was doing good at 12:30
Then Leno's contract was up and NBC wanted to keep him, but Conan was promised the tonight show.
So they made a new time slot for Leno.
The rating sucked all around with Leno and Conan and NBC lost money in advertisements.
So then they wanted to move Leno back. And bump everyone back
