Motor Swap, Oil capacity
So my hybrid is done, after wiping the rod bearings there was so much crap in the original oil pan, the shop installed a STi oil pan on my new block. Yesterday, I changed the oil after 1000 miles. I put in about 4 3/4 quarts of oil. Let it Run for a bit and backed it down off of the ramps to check the level. According to the dip stick I way over filled it. Almost an inch above the top notch. So I put it back up on the ramps, drained about 3/4 of a quart out, backed it off the ramps, to verify level was good. I left it at that.
I Started thinking there has to be something messed up here... There is only 4 quarts in my motor right now. I am pretty accustomed to pouring in about 4.8-5 quarts in the past.
Is there a difference in the length of the 2.5L and the 2.0L dip stick?

So I guess you're still using the 2.0L dipstick? I'm not sure if there is any difference in the lenghts. I'm sure someone with a 2.5L can bust out the measuring tape on their dipstick to check for you.

I have a recently done hybrid like you and I too noticed that after adding 4 quarts (warm engine, let the oil drain out for a full hour before replacing) the dipstick reads full - I thought I was just crazy; I will of course be paying attention to this thread!

My oil pan for the 2.0L motor was trashed it was full of tidbits from my rod bearings. Gruppe-s installed a 2.5L oil pan. Last night I was farting with it for a while. Onizuka called me and said that his stick measured 21.5" from end to end. That's a big stick for an Asian guy. I measured the one in my car and .... 21.5" WTF??? So I took some oil out. I would say that for one reason or another, my setup fills to owners manual spec; 4.2 quarts. I swear I used to be able to get almost 5 quarts in my 2.0L pan. Hopefully Mike will let me know when I can get it in fo my turbo swap and tune. Tommy should be able to check it out then. Where did these numbers of 4.8-5 quarts come from anyway?
