more dirt junkies needed July 17 & 18th
I'm really having a hard time believing that we still need to tell you guys about this. It's happening in just a few weeks and the Rally needs more Subaru's to attend. If you can't do it please be sure to tell a friend or two.
here's psoper's info:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just returned from the first route scouting trip up to Yreka for Golden West 2004.
This will be a 2-day TSD rally to be held July 17,18 on mostly dirt and gravel roads in the Klamath National Forest up around the CA/OR border and Mt Shasta.
The instruction format is pretty much the same as pro-rally, tulip diagrams for intersections, and no assigned speeds!
However, there are over 100 "Possible Checkpoints" scattered through the route that you are expected to arrive at "On Time" according to the key times given in the route instructions.
Points accumulate for being early or late at the checkpoints that have timing crews, (not all PC's will be manned) and whoever finishes the weekend with the fewest points takes home a trophy.
So its not a race, and no, you can't drive the whole thing flat out, but you don't need a helmet, fire suit or roll cage either.
There will be nearly 300 miles of challenging roads and I can pretty much assure you that if you enjoy driving on twisty unpaved roads, you WILL have a REALLY good time.
Flyers, entry forms and more information will be posted this week at www.therallyeclub.org, as well as on the SFR SCCA Rally site and others.
And if you don't want to pay the entry, and don't know much about rallying, you might want to help out by working checkpoints, workers will have their own rally to run, leapfrogging the field to get to the checkpoints, so you can sample and enjoy a lot of the same roads and get to spend time hanging out with the same crazy bunch of gravel enthusiasts that will be entered.
PM me if you have any questions, or if you want to work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
it'll be something you'll always remember. And if you need help washing your car afterwards i'll even help you with that.

I can't do it.
That weekend turns out to be "Passport Weekend" at the winery... I gotta work.
Oh well, I beat on my car enough over the last week anyway...
...but next time!

We stayed at a really cool (and free) campground in southern Oregon near Crater Lake called Camp Huckelberry
The nearby "Huckelberry Trail" is just a stone balst... A fifty mile an hour narrow, gravel rocket-ride. Oh my.
Y'oughtta check it out.

gotta love that dirt
I believe I'm already signed up to work and I cant wait for it! I'm curious when the workers meetings will be and if we'll need to make arrangements for accomodations (motel or camp site) since the date is quickly approaching.

Actually, it's about 15 miles southwest, but I bet we're thinking of the same trail. It does run NE.
So much a$$ indeed!
By the way: Crater Lake is one of the most spectacular places in the universe.
