i like the traditional ones better. I don't like the ones (also more expensive) with meat and all...

ha ha! yeah, they do... they even have shark fins in some. They go as much as $30!

I think it's nasty because the mix sweet and salt base things together.

When I was younger, I was told that the lotus paste was expensive. It took a lot of lotus seed to make that paste and the skill was hard etc etc...

And in the old days, when people had less money (relative to moon cake's price), they paid those famous restaurants/bakeries monthly so that they would be guaranteed the mooncakes when the festival arrived, and it would cost them less overall, especially when they bought 20-30 boxes in the old days to give to relatives. It was considered a polite gesture (I don't know how to term it) to give a box to your relative/co-worker/school bus driver/etc etc...

it depends on the filling for the moon cake...there are some really good ones, but others are bleh...but dude 20 boxes omg!!! thats $$$$$$

Yeah! i remembered when i was a little kid, my grandmother was a member of those mooncake clubs where she paid monthly. and every year when the time comes, she gets hundreds of boxes, filled up floor to ceiling in a decent sized closet. and she just gave them out to relatives and to the people who work for my grandfather.

i remember i use to hate moon cakes, but now its getting ok, i still dont really like them. but its pretty cool how they come with those cool little fork and knife. well some of htem.
