Looks like a tractor gone wrong.

There was a buggy body on a suburban frame and lifted way tall around in my town a few years ago.

The biggest problem here is the amount of money in that thing. Think about it. The bug, 1000 minimum. Then the wheels and tires were at least another 1500. The lift kit for the suspension and the body lift another 1500 minimum. Then the custom fabrication and labor are at least another 1000 and then God knows what kind of motor but 500 to say the least. So your looking at a total of 5500 at the minimum. You could get a wrx at that price!

I see what you're saying here, but I think you're off base a little bit on your prices. All that was lifted on this thing was the body - it appears to be all stock bug suspension still. As far as custom fabrication is concerned, I'd be more than willing to bet that some hillbilly built this in their garage. Used off road tires are actually pretty cheap - especially bald swampers and ground hawgs.

All of that aside, this thing looks like a deathtrap.

not even close lol.
chevy 1500 springs under a chasis that light would cost 50$ theres a bug shell on CL for 100$ using dana axles from a dodge and 15" steel wheels at 5$ each from pick n pull. motor is a gamble. a buick v6 would be more than enough power.
i could put something similar together for under 2000$

...and judging by the photos its not even going THAT far! Looks like stock suspension and swingaxle drivetrain. I've owned LOTS of aircooled VWs, and that thing is an abomination. I'd be less sad if someone did this to a 68+ bug, but this thing looks to be a 58-67. Sad.

i built one for a friend when i was in high school. he sourced the motor from a porche, not sure what model. i used XJ cherokee suspension/axles. 33" muds and a locked T-case. was horrible on the street but was fun in the mud.

you probably could do it that cheap but i mean i was thinking of atleast decent parts. not junkyard stuff.. but i mean clearly this was done with worse than junkyard stuff. lol. the body lift looks like a over sized shoe box. or a over sized gift box from macys lol.
