To Mobil 1... or not to Mobil 1... That is the Question (4200 mi)
Yes I know the topic has been discussed a bunch allready. Checked out www.bobistheoilguy.com ... some great info in the forums over there BTW if you guys haven't checked it out, lots of WRX owners post their oil analysii (plural sp?) over there.
Just wondering if any of you guys were experiencing some blow by from switching over early?
Did my first oil change at 1200 using dino oil. Planning on changing it again this weekend at 4200, probobly w/ dino again. Then making the switch to M1 @ 7200. Probobly just being **** retentive but, thats how I am with mah baby

Been using Mobil 1 since the very first oil change (1250 miles). Normal blow by. Motor has been fine since. No worries.
Change to synthetic now. It is just cheap insurance for your motor. Synthetic oil can take more heat than dino oil. Turbo motors run hotter than N/A. Synthetic is the only way to go.

I waited until 15k (meant to do it at 10k) to start using Redline 10W40 full synthetic.
Very happy with the results.
Many people (including ckevin) recommend waiting until 10k before switching, but I'm guessing that 7-8k is fine.

i use synthetic, have since 10k. i also use mobil one. i just read some reports though that said mobil one synthetic is just about as good for your engine as some mid-high grade normal oil. cant find the test now, but if i do ill post it. anyone else read that?

switched to RedLine @ 10K. Most people that I talked to stated to wait until 10K to switch. Something to do with the seals setting in better at 1st with regular dyno oil. I just waited but I'm sure people had done it earlyer as stated.

SO for the second part of the question... you guys that switched over earlier, do you guys have *more* blow by?
I know "more" is really vague... so maybe how much oil you guys see in the intercooler, much crud in there?
what about you guys that are still running dino or made the 10k + switch over to synth, got a coating of shiz in your intake tract?

Like I said before, I changed to synthetic with 1250 miles on the car. When I put on the Hyperflow TMIC for my Stage 4, I didn't notice ANY oil residue inside the stock intercooler. NONE WHATSOEVER. Just a slight film on the inside of my Samco compressor hose going up about half way up the hose. The oil never made its way to the intercooler. So no, I have barley any blow-by at all.
