Mixed Martial Arts in the Bay Area?
Okay, so I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a good Mixed Martial Arts gym or dojo here in the Bay Area, preferably in San Francisco or Daly City. I'm particularly interested in Vale Tudo, Shooting, and Pancratium. I'm most definitely not interested in Gracie Jiu-jitsu or Krav Maga (can it be considered a MMA?). I see a few Muay Thai places here and there, and I do like that striking style, but it seems to lack in holds and grappling. Thus, I'm interested in those particular styles that I named. Can you guys help me?

Try searching for some dojo's here.
Dojo Directory
I don't think they have what you're looking for though.
Or try this.

Choku Dori,
What exactly are you looking for? I'm not sure there are quite as many martial arts experts as snowboarding experts on BAIC, but I'm sure I can help.
From your description (you like striking but want holds and grappling and shootfighting and suplexes) Cung Le martial arts in SSF is pretty tight if you're looking for a striking style w/ takedowns. Cung Le happens to be the world champion Sanshou fighter ATM, and some of his students/instructors are vale tudo, MT, and grappling champions themselves.
So you should check it out. It's basically boxing plus kicking plus grappling/shooting/takedowns. (no ground fighting, though I guess you know the difference between all these terms)
I don't know about Pancratium, this ain't Ancient Greece, but I have respect for it.
I know of quite a few BJJ practitioners who look down on Vale Tudo, dunno why though.
Of course there's the world famous "Lion's Den" in the valley. Dunno if you're up to the 600 squats and pushups required for entry though

Thanks for the info Ambert. Yeah I've seen alot of Cung Le's fights and he is impressive, to say the least. However, I want ground fighting elements as well. I guess a preferable fighting style would be somewhere between Sakuraba Kazushi (although he's a little too oriented on grappling/wrestling and not enough on striking) or Wanderlei Silva (a little to much emphasis on striking and not enough on grappling). I guess you could say I'd like the best of both worlds: strong striking at a distance then equally strong grappling and floor work when the need arises
Hehe I don't think I'm anywhere near tough enough to even consider the Lion's Den. I was considering starting this in the winter to keep in shape while I'm out of school, and then probably continuing if it suits me.
Anyway, thanks for all the info Ambert!

Oh! I just figured out why some BJJ practitioners look down on Vale Tudo. It's because Vale Tudo actually has some decent striking, unlike BJJ where you grab the opponent, pull him down to the ground, and hump him until he taps out!
Sorry, couldn't help it. I'm not a very big fan of BJJ at all, as you can see haha.

ok...
there's SDI in fremon (self defense institute)
which pretty much teaches everything.
So you say you want something between Kazushi and Silva. Well, I really don't think there IS a unified MMA in the world that's like that lol...
Go to defend.net and post there. They whoop ***, literally.

There is a teacher at AKA that does teach some mixed martial arts. He also fought at UFC. He teaches the Jiu Jitsu classes, but substitutes for other teachers during the Kickboxing classes. We got to learn some very basic ground techniques, and how to mix them with kickboxing.
I am still interested in going back to training Muay Thai, but I have not found a school that teaches Muay Thai, except for Fairtex, which is way to far from me. I would also be interested in learning Vale Tudo, but have not found anything like that around here.
