Mitsubishi HSR-II concept car, anyone ever see this thing?
It's from 1989 and was famous for it's revolutionary aerodynamics. It had two large flaps on the rear lid that would go up or down depending on if you were turning, accellerating, or braking. If you were turning, the one opposite to the side you were turning would raise putting downforce on the wheel that needed the most traction, and when you decellerated, both flaps would raise, sort of like how a Veyron has that spoiler that acts as a brake.
I found this car on Gran Turismo 4, so I did some research on it... It's super light weight, somewhere around 2400lbs, has around 300hp (turbo), AWD, and had variable aerodynamics. It looked weird, but was a really cool design, I'm sure that car would be really fun to toy around with! Here are some pics to give you an idea of it's weird flaps.
The rear aero flaps are def the weirdest things about this car... In the pic above you'll notice only one flap is up, that's because the car is turning and the flap is creating down force to the outer wheel, AKA the one wheel that needs the most traction. Weird, huh?
Here's a shot of both flaps up, this happens when you hit the brakes at high speeds, just like a Veyron.
I gotta say, this car on Gran Turismo 4 is pretty bad ***, especially when you give it a few mods. 2,050lbs, a lot of HP, GREAT handling due to the "flaps" and it's overall aerodynamics. Def one of the better handling cars in the game. (non-racecar)
While I was searching I found this Lancia Stratos concept, which is the ugliest car Ive ever seen in my whole life!
WOW!
Here's a link to a thread that covers many, MANY obscure super cars of the past... Check it out, def worth a view! Some WEIRD *** cars in there!

I have a book that details a lot of obscure concepts. There are some really, really cool ones. As ugly as most of them are, the ones pre-80s are generally really interesting and give you a sense of how ahead of their time they really were.
