Unhappy Migraines UUHG!

So I get migraines... A LOT. I have basically had one since Sat morning (it's now Monday evening). I was taking Excederin Migraine, but that doesn't seem to do the trick anymore. I just took a sample of Relpax that my mom gave me, so I'll see how that works out. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow because I obviously need an effing act of god/ medical miracle in order to live a halfway normal life.

In the mean time... any of you get migraines? What do you do to make them go away? Any ideas for preventative measures?

And telling me to go take a bong rip and drink some beer is not really what I'm looking for as 1) I've tried that and 2) alcohol triggers migraines for me.

TIA

Take a trip to the Emergency Room. They'll give you some narcotics.

I will have to wait all night to be seen... if you're not bleeding, having chest pains, or a kid you are last in line. Plus I already have narcotics and they haven't been helping Thanks tho

Well there are preventative medicines, I'm not familiar with them though or migraine doctors in the bay area.

I'll ask my sis, I know she gets them and isn't down with the whole "bong and a blintze" thing.

For me, it would always be dehydration. I would drink something like 64oz of water and be okay after a few hours. Lots of pressure around my temples or (as odd as it sounds) someone that can do a skull-massage and work on pressure points and such. Excedrin also helped a lot but it sounds like that's out. Much stronger and you might as well go the bong route.

Preventative measures?..

All I can think of is to identify the triggers.... and avoid them.

Alcohol like you mentioned would be good to avoid, other simple stuff like scents may trigger them as well.

Exercise is good for you too as it reduces tension and can inhibit the onset of migraines.

Are you taking any regular meds? I know estrogen is known to bring on migraines.

Medications like the pill is rich in estrogen and can make you more susceptible to migraines.

Hang in there!

have you gotten checked before? i get some good headaches once an a while, but if they are frequent i would def get that checked out!
My friend's dad had frequent headaches and it turned out that he could have had a small anurism (sp) if he kept on just taking OTC medicines and ignoring it as a regular migraine.

ooh, I'm gonna use the 'alcohol gives me migraines' for my stay sober alibi!

on a side note, I do think dehydration has caused more than a few headaches in my days, although I've never had a migraine (that I know of).

I vote for exercise, if you're stressed it'll help a lot, stick to cardio tho and remember to breathe.

best remedy 2 extra strength tylenol+ 400-600mg of ibuprofen (Motrin)= great ****. fyi ibuprofen, is a classic non steroidal anti inflammatory drug. It has analgesic (pain-killing) properties and it blocks inflammation.

Tylenol, or acetaminophen, is an analgesic only. It decreases pain but does not have anti-inflammatory effects. The action is different from that of non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.

Thats what I use when I get a migraine, and I've used imitrex and excedrin and its garbage. My nursing teacher recommended this to me and it has worked wonders... But use on your own risk... Eat something b4 you take Ibuprofen(Motrin) because it is harsh on the stomach, and lots of water.

used to have migraines alot as a kid, doctor gave me a prescription for something that basically knocked you out....can't remember what the meds were though.

I would definitely get looked at by a doctor.
