Characters are cake compared to pinyin - tone changes and spelling rules are the bane of my semester.

Actually, "having meaning" also means funny, for more serious things, seems contradictory but thats how it is. I suppose you can also say it just like the cantonese way with hao shao, but that might not be as mainlandish.
