Lug Nuts

*Ugh* Hey guys, I'd like some consumer reviews/opinions from my fellow BAIC'ers, please.

Long story short, some idiot garage way overtorqued my lug nuts the last time I had some tire work done, and when I went to swap a wheel out a few days ago, the socket adapter split three ways down the length of the socket while I was trying to unscrew the lug nuts. I was running a set of Motegi lug nuts that I got for free from someone I know, and they seemed like pretty decent lug nuts, but damn, I can't believe that the socket adapter included with them could turn into a metal flower like that. Anyone else ever experience this before?

Anyway, the key question is, does anyone have any advice or recommendations regarding an affordable set of lug nuts that are relatively "worry-free"? Specifically, I'm looking for a set of lug nuts that will sit well in a set of Rota Tarmac II's and that has a socket adapter that's thicker/made of heavier gauge metal. The lug nuts don't have to particularly lightweight or pretty looking, just stress-free, functional, and affordable and preferably ready for pickup in the Bay Area.

Thank you all very much, I really appreciate it!

You should go back and have that shop pay you for some new lug nuts.

When you torque something too much don't be surprised if it breaks, I'd tell that shop to buy me some new ones!

Yeah, I already argued with the dick manager. He had the ***** to say that aftermarket socket adapters are made to give out after a few uses. I'll have to call their corporate office to file a complain, methinks.

In the meantime, any other suggestions for new lug nuts besides McGard? (thanks Marshall)

i had a goodyear break a stud when putting on mcgard splines, i complained and he said it was because i was using aftermarket wheels and lugs that it broke...

got them to replace the stud for free, but then after i left the shop, i got onto 280 and 5 of the lugs shot off on the freeway...

i put the stocks back on, on the side of the freeway...brought the car back and they said once again it was the aftermarket parts that caused it to fail..

i suspect a lazy tech who didnt torque them down...by this time i was PO'ed so i just said a loud F U and left..

anyways im running deevos now that i got from SE, and theyve been working fine

Regardless of whether you still have them or not, thanks Ave, I really appreciate it.

And thank you to the others as well regarding recommendations for lug nuts!

I got my set of blox lugnuts for 42 bucks and some change. My friend got a set of the black ones, seems like the paint is already fading. Only about... roughly 4-5 months? It was the first production line that they sold... maybe the newer ones are better on the finish? Not sure... but I still have mines in the box yet to be used. If you do want a set of Blox lug nuts for 42 somin, pm me. I can make some calls

My blox lugs were anodized and not painted, had no fading whatsoever. I think I payed like $50 shipped on a group buy.

Question for the Blox users: how does the socket adapter look? Pretty beefy? Like, comparable to an OEM wheel lock adapter? I don't want a repeat of the the aforementioned incident even if faced with incompetence again (because we know the world is filled with stupid people, right?). Thanks!

While we're at it, same question for the McGard users too!
