Lowered WRX to tahoe, any tips/problems?
I'm planning on taking my car to tahoe for the first time in a week or two. I can borrow an suv but i have a subaru, why not right? I got some toyo proxes with m+s rating on stock rims in my yard but my cars lowered with 04 tanabe gf210 (similiar to s-tech drop) and a sti version 1 lip. Will i have any problems taking it? I'll probably take off the lip, no need for a snow plow.

ummmm....basically. Use your brains. AWD and M+S tires don't make you untouchable.
Beyond that...don't really worry about the height of your car. Generally you are not going to be driving on roads that are not scraped. Long as you don't go offroading it's like driving any other AWD vehicle. Shoot....I've strait up SMASHED on my car in the snow before....like 8 inches of powder...SMASHED on it. can't wait. Think I'm going up tuesday.
my car is lowered and it does fine. Shoot I went up there in my lowered civic and did just fine.

oh yeah.......forgot to mention....that the height of your car isn't going to effect you as much as the stiffness of your suspension is going to....like fat sway bars.
and being low in the snow is like being low out of it...be aware of how high your car is..haa.

I have dedicated snow tires on my wrx and I still drive pretty darn sedate(other than in the vacant parking lot in an undisclosed location in Tahoe. )
edit: Oh yeah, leave yourself a lot of room from the car in front of you and don't jump on the brakes. That will definitely cause you to slide. Also, if you're driving an manual tranny, leave it in gear. AWD is useless unless the wheels have power.

i went to tahoe last year, with my lowered outback (225/45/16 all season), no problem at all. the police had a snow chain inspection b'cos the road was covered with snow and lil' bit of ice. just drive slow and carefully. other than that its ok.

The only problem I had one time was getting snow caked into the rear wheel well. Being low I could just barely get a tool in there to break the snow out of there. It was so caked that the tire was rubbing on it. But other than that, I haven't had any problems with being low and driving in snow.

I went up to Northstar yesterday, Sunday, with my WRX and S-03s. It was scary at first because i kept driving over the little snow lines that was left in between each cars tires, wanted to test out the AWD, but yah... drive slow and you'll be alright. Chances are that you'll be stuck in traffic, so you'll be forced to take it easy, which is a good thing.
BUT...if you find an empty parking lot with snow, then take advantage of it! I couldn't find one last night but I'm going back up on the 21st-23rd, so I'll be on the look out
