Lost shipment - who's on the hook

I sold a part on nasioc and shipped via usps. It wasn't that expensive so I didn't get insurance on it.

USPS lost it (I did request delivery confirmation) but the last entry is out with carrier for delivery. The buyer and I have contact USPS, gone to the post office and it looks like it's gone.

The part was $27 shipped, I paid about $5 to get it shipped so total, $32. The buyer is asking for a refund.

Granted, it's not a lot of money but I would rather not eat the cost if it wasn't my fault.

Do I refund half? Do I refund $27 - $5 = $22? Or do I pay him the $27 that he paid me?

At $16, I'd refund half just out of good will.

EDIT: Forgot it was NASIOC, **** 'em!

You should refund the amount in full. As the shipper/seller it is your responsibility to safely get the item to the buyer. In the future be sure to always insure your packages or ship with UPS/Fedex which automatically include $100 insurance (higher insurance is additional)

hate to say it but it falls on your shoulders. its one of those things, when you have insurance on a package it arrives fine, when you dont it gets lost. always ship with insurance, or just ship UPS they include $100 insurance on every package shipped

Tt's on you

Imagine if you bought something from a vendor that never showed up... would you accept a 50% refund

Agreed!

OP...don't be a cheap ****, but rather chalk this up as a (fairly inexpensive) lesson.

Next time I would request signature authorization. This forces the carrier to deliver the item. If you want to be extra cautious get the insurance, it's usually relatively inexpensive! Sorry about your misfortune better luck next time mate
