First off, EMT won't get you a job right away. I've been an EMT for 2+ years now and still at the volunteer level.
As a kid of a military family, if you already have kids, and a wife, DONT DO IT. I have full respect for every member of the service and would never speak an ill word of any of them. BUT, it does ruin families. I watched friends on the navy base warp as their families split up constantly. Both my parents, unbeknownst of the others wandering, found other people and then put me and my siblings through a super fun divorce
Unemployment was created for a reason. Should you sit on your *** and collect? NO! But if need be, it can be a temporary crutch. If you enjoy your field try and find another job in the same area. Just my $0.02
