Looking for Suby Techs/Mechanics for repairs. Home or Shop.

Hello I club,

I was wondering if there are any Techs/Mechanics or people who do work on subaru engines.

I have a 2000 Legacy Gt WAgon and need a considerable amount of repairs on it.

The most major one is the Head GAsket Replacement along with Engine and TRansmission Mount.

I am looking for someone trustworthy who can do the repairs for me.

I can just save up and have it done at the shop that quoted me, but if i can find someone trustworthy and save money. I would rather go that route.

Thank You.

Mike

There's a post that's stickied on the baic main page with a list of great shops. There's also xhengmanx who's always down to come over and fix stuff.

Yeah for head gaskets you will def want a good shop to service you. Head gaskets on subys are just shy of a motor swap for the amount of work it takes, in fact I knowa couple shops that prefer to pull the motor out for a head gaskets job so its def not a job job for your garage or driveway besides you will also need the heads machined before they are reinstalled so just let a shop handle it. Its def not the kind of job. You want to take a big chance on just to save a few hundred bucks

Indeed we've done quite a few headgaskets at our shop on subies but we finally encountered one that keeps leaking oil over and over. I think we've done them a total of 4 times now in 5k miles. Going to pull the engine monday because I think the block is uneven.

any of these places should be able to help you out

specialists in routine subaru maintenance are LIC in novato, dbtuned in roseville and auto hq in redwood city - the rest are more performance oriented IMO

This sounds like a perfect job for LIC Motorsports. Give them a call and they'll take great care of you!

Thanks

Thank You Krinkov,

I totally understand what you're saying and I will take your Advice. Garage 1 Auto is where I brought my Suby. They Quoted me 2,762.00 to replace HeadGasket, timing belt, Waterpump, cam seals, the whole shibang and also the Engine and Tranny mounts. The previous owner said he already did the timing belt, water pump ETc at 105k so hopefully i wont need to replace those. Then thatll drop my cost to about 2 grand for the job. They said they would let me know.

They said my front Axle assembly is broken as well as a rear Differential bushings. Along with left and right steering rack and tie rod ends.

Total is $3,806.64

I'm going to get the Headgasket and Mounts done first and the rest later.

It would be nice to just Swap a WRx Engine in here. haha, but damn no MUla for that.

Thanks Slugrx. kinda too far away for me. Im trying to stay in the sanjose/santa clara area.

I dont see Garage 1 Auto on the list. I wonder why that is? I wonder if they would give me a discount if I give them a good name on the forum??? Hmm....Ill ask them. That would help a lot, but then again my car being fixed would make my life easier as well. Gotta get to work!

Thank You ED

I think im going to either keep my car at Garage 1 Auto (wanna stay local) for them to do the HeadGasket and Mounts ($2,700 incl timing, waterpump, etc) for now and return to them later for other repairs. Unless Mann Engineering or Gst gives me a better Quote, but Garage 1 Auto seems Honest, but damn before buying the car I didnt know I would need all thses repairs. X_x

They said I can drive on it after the HeadGasket and mounts for a while then change the

Front Axle Assembly
Rear Diff bushings
left and right steering rack boots and tie rod ends when i get the money, which would be about $1,000.00 extra.

Are these Fair prices?

Do you think 2700 is reasonable for this job or is it a little on the high end? I know its cheaper than Dealership and at least they love and know their subys.

Thank You!

Aww Man. Do you think so RAu? Should I take it to another shop and have them look at it as well? They seem honest, but i dont really know too much about cars and i did tell them I just bought the car. They did show me the Mounts were broken, but I didnt get a chance to check out the axle, bushings, or steering components.

If I take it to another shop( Mann or GST) should i show them the estimates and tell them about the problems that Garage 1auto told me about or should i let them diagnose it for themsleves and see if i can get a match?

A swap would be awesome, but thats out of my budget I just want this car to be running and be reliable... I love this model.

Thanks Rau! ^_^

If you don't mind me asking Rau. What would you do in my situation?
