Look What I Found in My Backyard!

Last week I was in the kitchen putting some dishes away, and I hear a hissing sound coming from my backyard. I live up in the boondocks up in the Santa Cruz mountains, so I thought it was my Propane tank that supplies my house with gas. So I went in the backyard to see what the sound was. I looked around the tank and didn't smell that rotten egg smell.

My neighbor was out and said, "Do you know what that sound is?". I said, "Rattlesnake". He said, "Yup". He is used to rattlesnakes since he has lived up here all of his life. He got a shovel and carefully put it in a garbage can and I snapped this shot of it. Then he took it away from our properties and brought it down to the creek about a mile away. And it was pretty large to say the least. Rattlesnakes just look bada$$ for some reason.

Argh! I was eating when I opened this, I hate snakes! One of the only things I still have nightmares about!

My sister worked for a psychologist in the santa cruz mountains some years ago, she saw a family of scorpions under some tarp, and her boss got bitten by a black widow while trying to swat it away from her!

It must be nice to live up in the hills though.

My friend and I caught one of these about 10 years ago here in Sacramento, never seen anything like it and haven't until now. Someone said that they were some sort of Garden Spider
