locksmith that does "laser cut" keys

Recently got tired of having a key and a key fob for a 2011 STI, so bought a 2011 Legacy key that has the key fob integrated into the key. I programmed the key, but need to find a place to get it cut. Dealership refused to cut it/had to send it to Subaru to cut plus an additional $160 to program . Any recommendations for a locksmith locally that can cut a "laser cut" key for a reasonable price?

TIA!

Nicholas Cage has a boxer lookin' kid that can get those from the Benz dealership.

Eventually though, it's off to the impound lot to steal the original cars.

I tried, but they were gone in 60 seconds

Doing the mod from that thread on NASIOC?

So much more convenient than having a key and a remote but it's too much damn work, for me.

Originally, yes. However, after thinking about how flimsy those flip keys become over time, I decided to just use the Legacy key as is. Literally took me 20 minutes from start to finish and ready to be cut.

I did the flip key mod. There's a locksmith behind Stevens Creek Subaru called schwenk lock something like that. He charged me $35 for the cut. Program either do it yourself or Stevens Creek can do it for $70 .

Here's the link http://www.schwenklock.com/

Did you end up having the local Ace Hardware do it or dealership or what b/c I was gonna just reply that IIRC Dale Hardware in Fremont has a machine for it now.

Did ya need to show proof of registration or anything? So need to do this for the Forester. The only reason to hesitate at all is my factory key is a sealed piece with the chip. If I ever go kayaking or surfing I can carry just the key instead of risking water intrusion shorting stuff out.

I ended up going to a place that I found on Yelp. Overall a little bit more than other places but they seemed to have done an awesome job. They didn't ask for proof or registration since they knew you needed a chip with the key to start the car.

For the mod, I basically cut open the valet key and swapped the chip with new key. Never intended to use the valet key, so didn't bother me much.
