+1 to 1080p if not for the fact that it future proofs you for content. Hopefully, TV/Sat/Cable sources will broadcast in 1080p down the line but I'm happy with Bluray and HD DVD source content.

Now if they will just start making cheaper combo drives/CE players. Best case scenario if the format war ends, but I don't care who wins as long as the consumer benefits from the lower cost solutions.

As for 720p vs 1080p, people keep forgeting that it does make a difference as long as your source content is up to par. I think before people make distance this vs size this comparisons the source content should be the same across the board.

It's not purely a matter of source material.

The reason distance matters is because of an issue called visual acuity.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_acuity

Visual acuity is the eye's ability to differentiate two items at a given distance. Past certain distances, your eye begins to perceive two separate items as one (think: the bottom line on a vision tests) or in the case of TV's, pixels. Past certain distances your eye begins to meld pixels effectively reducing the number of perceived pixels. Taken to a real extreme, put a TV at a mile away and those 1900 x 1080 pixels will like one glowing dot; a perceived resolution of 1 x 1.

Distance vs. screen size does indeed have an impact with all inputs being equal. 720 and 1080 will look the same because of this melding of pixels on smaller screens at longer distances.

I agree, but it should be sorted out first before any arguement over distance and size is brought up. To make it fair for the deciding user they should have a controlled environment to make the comparison fair.

EG:
32" LCD TV (720p) vs 32" LCD TV (1080p)
Viewing distance 8 feet
Source content Sony BD STD-100n test disc (used for qualifying any type of Bluray playback solution for the Bluray logo)- has 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p contents at full frames in all formats h.264, mpeg2, vc1.

Then let the user decide after playing all the different types of source content.

Bottomline: Each user will have a more defined preference with the non-biased control evironment.

From seeing that setup personally I do see a difference in 1080p vs 720p.
