Hello... I know a few members here are LEOs. If you'd like to remain under the radar so to speak please email me.

I am doing my research and putting in motion my steps to doing this. I don't do anything without an insane amount of research... hence me being a member here MONTHS BEFORE I bought a WRX. lol.

I'd like to pick your brains. All of yours. From CHP to PD to Sheriff. Special tactical members and average joes.

I've already started contact with Santa Cruz county sheriff and standard PD.

My email is thepowederhound@gmail.com.

Please idgits... don't flood me with crap or sign me up for random **** or crap like that. Please only use that email for this purpose.

Remember... I might be tapping your glass and asking for your license and registration one day.

I'm basically trying to see where will be the best fit for me and give me the best opportunity to get hired, get trained and have the best options/choices.

if you have money, go to the academy on your own dime.

otherwise, wait for the agency to do so.

btw, dont forget state or federal LE agencies...

I don't think I could do federal... no military training and no BA.

State could be interesting.

I am on unemployment and don't really have money but they have reinbursement plans now. I could maybe do the cadet thing. That's why I applied as a deputy trainee. Get a job then go through academy through the deparment and move up at a later date. At least I'd have my foot in the door even though I'd be low man on the pole for a while.

I just think at my age I might have to just put myself through the academy to make this happen. I can't wait around.

But we're talking paying bills with no income here and paying the 10k or so it's gonna cost for the academy, guns/ammo and uniforms and what not.

You can do a post academy at a junior college, they're not all that expensive

There are a couple JC's in the Bay that do offer academies, a buddy of mine went through one last year...Evergreen college (?) is where he went through his I think.

This one looks to be about 4k out the door

Good luck.

Be prepared for the most BS, arbitrary interrogation into your life you've ever experienced.

My only advice is apply EVERYWHERE and make sure you tell the truth every time. Or, if you lie, make sure you make the EXACT same lie across the board or you'll get canned immediately and no agency will pick you up in the near future because of it. You'll be answering those same PHQ questions about 4 times, months apart, for each agency you apply to.

Oh, and make a 'master sheet' of all your references, job history, employment dates, etc. so you don't have to try and remember 10+ year old information every time you apply to a different agency.
