Kragen has sale on Mobil1

Be aware, the modern Mobil 1 is NOT the same formula of even 2 years ago. This new stuff runs a bit thin, I noted quite a difference in the forester (its only had mobil 1 all its life, 150k miles), it was so thin after running around, that I changed out to Amsoil.
Read around, a lot of people are starting to say that the new formula M1 doesn't meet the requirements of the subaru engine anymore.

That's not entirely true. While the 5w30 & 10w30 Grades seem to Sheer Down to a 20 weight oil very rapidly they do have other Grades of Oil that I really have not been seeing problems with. They do have a 0w40 European Formula that would probably be a better suited oil to use for our vehicles, but it seems like very few people want to run this one and opt to run the lower grades that are just not properly suited to our vehicles.
I have also seen people have good results with Mobil 1 when they mix 1 qt of 15w50 with the rest being the 5w30 or 10w30 to complete the oil change. That particular mix seems to have helped people prevent the oil from Sheering Down to a 20 weight.
While Yes there are other brands of oil out there that seem to be better oils (such as German Castrol, Rotella T and others) don't just rule out one brand entirely when there may be other formulas that might be much better suited to the type of driving our cars do on a regular basis.
However, the BEST way to tell just how good or bad an oil really is in our cars is to have a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) performed and see just how well the oil is really holding up to the type of driving being done by both the car and the driver.
