i was reading a 4wd related magazine where they laid vinyl on a toyota FJ cruiser.

i mean every single body panel was covered by this stuff. i figured that might be a cheaper way to change the color of my 17 y/o truck that has had body modification by... mother nature.

somewhere in the east bay if possible.

thanks.

My aunt does just that. Check out:

I don't think it's very inexpensive though.

There's a place at Infineon raceway that specializes in vinyl for race cars. I'm not sure of the same, but you can find it on the race way website.

never thought of using it to 'change color' of a car... very interesting idea...

but yeah, I don't think it's that cheap... You might just well pay for a cheap paint job...

FWIW, you'd be looking at approx $5K for a "full" wrap.

Yes, it can change the look of a car completely. The Evo in the picture linked below is actually a WHITE Evo RS

It's not exactly trivial (or cheap) to cover an entire car like that. Quite a bit of CAD layout and design involved (read that as "hours of work by an artist who isn't gonna work for free"), plus material and printing costs (machine big enough to print that big = not cheap either).

In the car linked above, the car was done as a business promotion tool (hint : tax write-off ). The owner has since sold Xtreme Performance to someone else and still has the car, with the vinyl now removed.

Yes, Navid sold Xtreme to another local autocrosser last year when he moved to Oregon for family reasons. Navid is now a principal in PDX Tuning.

I have a jeep I plan to wrap based on the same magazine article you just read I would assume. Here is the link for the camo. I just read I could wrap my jeep for $450 or so. http://www.camoclad.com/

I understand why it's pricy, but i have to say paint just seems like the better solution.

If you're going with only one (or even a couple) of solid colors, then heck yeah its (a lot) cheaper to do a cheap paintjob.

If you're going with a VERY intricate design (i.e. see pic I linked above), then the vinyl becomes more cost effective compared to tons of airbrush work. The fact you can do vinyl on a "new" car and peel it off later to reveal a remarkably well preserved OEM paint job is a nice bonus. Also say you get into a fender bender that messes up just a single fender...but nothing else. Custom paint job = good luck getting it to match. Vinyl = have them just re-print that one panel after you do the body work and reapply.
