You buy gas at ANY station and you don't know what you are getting...
There are only a couple of refineries in the bay area and they aren't trucking stuff in from anywhere else.

When I was in high school I worked at a Chevron, saw the BP tanker truck pull up lots of times.

That's like buying a Budweiser cup at a ball game filled with Coors. Nothing wrong with either product, but kinda deceiving...

Exactly!!! All this bull**** about staying away from stations based on brand name alone is hysterical nonsense.
Pick a station that: sells fuel the cheapest and has a high turnover/multiple deliveries a day.
Time kills gas.

Also, Costco has a reputation (via policy) for cleaning their tanks more frequently than other gas stations. Food for thought.

My dad once religiously filled up his Honda Ridgeline with Costco gasoline. Some months later, he got a CEL and later found out he got build-up on the valves.

The dealership recommended to use "higher quality fuel". My dad (and family) won't ever use Costco gasoline again (and besides, the lines/waiting is a PITA).

This is true, but I believe the additives differ from brand to brand.

I used "el cheapo" gas for years in the wife's RS. Then we had an injector fail. Since then (roughly '05), I've run only Chevron, 76 or shell and we haven't had a problem. Now that's not to say that the cheapo gas caused it, but I won't be going there to save $1-2 on a tank.

Yup, you're mostly paying for the additives. Every brand has their own. The gas itself is essentially all the same.

All gas is the same whether you get it from Costco or Chevron... until each company adds their special ingredients like additives, cleaning agents which makes them different. Just like what others were saying about costco and safeway etc. they usually just get whatevers the cheapest at the moment. But your branded stations (i.e. Valero, Chevron, Shell, BP) should all be from a branded supply site.

Trust me I work at a terminal supply site in sacramento and hear stories all the time about the costcos, safeways etc... not something I would put in my car

Think about how much you're really saving by getting the cheaper gas... 0.10 - 0.15 cents cheaper/gallon on a full tank thats like $1.50+

+1 for staying away from the cheap stuff.
