Just got a smog check

I just got a smog check last night and I passed. I have a 2002 Subaru WRX. Just in case anyone was curious, I passed with the following mods on:

Perrin Silcone Intake hose
K&N replacement air filter
Gruppe-S uppipe
STI Injectors
VF30 Turbo
Utec Engine Management (stage 4 map selected, slightly modified by me)

I had to put my Turbo Back exhaust back on in order to pass, because i was running catless since i first bought the car.

Hope this helps anyone who needs to pass smog soon, and is running the same mods or equivalent.

I passed legally. I stopped by some gas station by my house that did smog checks. Everything was 100 percent legit. He did a visual inspection, even looked underneath the car to see that I had a Cat.

well they just rev the car correct? So passing there is easy just need your cats.

As for visual they have no idea what they are looking except for the exhaust and they just want to see some cats.

I go next year good luck me to me.

Congratz to you.

besides the visual test, the test also involves. Maintaining the rpm to 2500, the guy used a tool on the pedal to maintain it at 2500, he also did it himself. He also check the MIL/CEL, and the gas cap. I think that was about it besides the usual emission part of it.

The Utec is a piggy back ecu. I dont believe that it modifies the ecu the same way that a reflash does.

Yep I also just passed the other day....

- WRX motor
- DW 565cc Injectors
- VF34
- STi Uppipe
- KN Filter
- Prodrive catback

They just rev'd to 2500 and kept it there for like 30seconds then did the gas cap pressure test. Visually everything looked stock and was fine. I didn't get any second looks or nothing. Passed sniffer very well. I only had my stock DP reinstalled then removed it and put my stromung dp on the next day. F U California

Cheap too....$40 OTD with everything including cert

Nope...the dealer can...but smog checks can't as far as I know. I use an accessport and it blocked any CEL that wasn't necessary from comming up and all was well

I know people that have passed with a gt35, fmic, 1000cc injectors, new fuel system. The only thing he did was put his stock TBE on and put his EMS to valet mode.

They must have had a hookup or had someone look the other way and just do the sniffer....I guess they had a non-rotated kit or something?

well the turbo is not under boost at all so smog is really not the issue, if you have your stock dp and CBE you will pass the sniffer just fine. The visual is the part that most people have problems with, but if the smog person does not know that much about your car you can pass the smog just fine.
