Just flashed to Stage 1 using Tactrix

I flashed to a free Stage 1 map from ev8siv3 over at osecuroms.org
this past weekend.

I didn't want to spend $700 on an access port when I can do the same
thing for $100.

I can use the extra $600 on Defi gauges or get used parts for stage 2.

1st, I bought this, http://www.tactrix.com/product_info.php?products_id=35

2nd, I downloaded EcuFlash, http://www.openecu.org/index.php?title=Downloads

3rd, I found a Stage 1 map, http://www.osecuroms.org/

4th, I connected two green test cables, the white reflash connector, the obdII cable to usb on laptop, opened ECUflash, turned the key to ON position, and read my stock ROM. Then I did a test write, and finally flashed the Stage 1 map. I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery, pumped the brakes a couple of times, and reconnected the negative terminal.

Excited about the reflash, I took the car to CA-9 to CA-84 to 101 and then to the Kwik-E-Mart for a Squishee

The car felt great, a lot smoother, and 4th gear really pulls now.
All in all, I am pretty happy with the $100 mod.

Has anyone else noticed the same gains as I did going Stage 1?
I can't wait to go Stage 2, but right now I need to replace my RE92 tires.

^^ You should do some logs and check out how your car is running.
You can only reflash your ecu x amount of times so be careful. Happy tuning....

Did you save your stock map before you flashed over the new map?

i suggest jumping straight to stage 2...

i was going to go through with the openECU stuff.. but finding a local tuner appears to be impossible.

That's the beauty of accessport. I'm not sure of tactrix, but the AP allows you to change maps infintely

Yah you only have to flash once and can juggle the maps you want. If you are only going stage 1 or 2 then a homebrew map is the way to go. Saves you $400-500

Not true, with ecuflash, you flash the base map once, and as you change that map over and over, it just changed the cells in the map that you modify, so its not a full flash each time

Welcome to the world open source tuning SW, this is very big in the evo tuner community. There seems to be more grassroots open source subie tuners, but not nearly as many commercial ones

I know a few bay area tuners can custom dyno tune subies using ecuflash, but most just go with cobb since the SW is so easy to use

And if you are going to be using OTS maps, be sure to log your car and possibly pick up a wideband
