with an SLR, you are looking in the viewfinder what the camera's sensor sees. hence the term SINGLE LENS REFLEX.

with point and shoot cameras, the VF might be seeing something diff that the lens does. for example, i went to this concert a few years ago. i had a nikon coolpix. and they were letting people take photos.

i was crazy running around taking pixs. but i accidentally hit the 2x switch on the camera and the what i was looking at looks normal but the camera was zooming in.

almost ruined the nite. that nite, i made the decision to go DSLR. which was fortunate since the canon 10D was just make big news as the first real affordable DSLR in the market. a few weeks later i picked one up. havent look back since.

until.... last month. at the CES in vegas, i was walking around for 3 days. dragging the 10D with the extra body for the dual batteries was such in pain. also, i kept worrying about bumping it into something or someone when walking around. plus the 6" lens didnt help with the portability. lol...

then i wished i had a flat P&S camera.
